PhD Researcher – Meritocracy as Political CultureTrinity College Dublin is seeking to appoint a PhD Researcher to join a project investigating “Meritocracy as Political Culture.” This fully funded doctoral opportunity is hosted within the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Department of Sociology, and offers an excellent platform for engaging in innovative and interdisciplinary research.The successful candidate will conduct original research examining how meritocratic ideas influence political attitudes, policy preferences, and social behaviour. The role involves designing and executing empirical research, including qualitative and quantitative methods, collecting and analysing data, and situating findings within broader sociological and political frameworks. The PhD researcher will also contribute to academic publications, conference presentations, and knowledge exchange activities within the University and with external partners.This position provides comprehensive doctoral training, access to academic mentorship, and the opportunity to engage with a vibrant research community at a leading global institution. The researcher will also participate in relevant departmental activities and professional development opportunities to support career progression in academia or related fields.Eligibility CriteriaApplicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a first-class or upper second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in Sociology, Political Science, Social Policy, or a closely related social science discipline. Candidates with relevant research experience and a strong interest in political sociology and social stratification are particularly encouraged to apply.Required expertise/skillsCandidates should demonstrate strong analytical and research skills, with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Excellent academic writing, communication, and critical thinking abilities are essential. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team is required.
