A pharmaceutical site is undergoing a major expansion to increase oral solid dose (OSD) production through a brownfield retrofit.
An experienced E&I Lead is required to oversee Electrical & Instrumentation installation during the construction phase, ensuring delivery to schedule, quality, and GMP standards.
The role will act as the client-side technical authority, managing contractors, overseeing installation works, and ensuring successful handover through commissioning, qualification, and into operations.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the client representative for all E&I installation activities during the construction phase
Lead and oversee the delivery of E&I scopes across a complex pharmaceutical retrofit project
Manage interfaces between design, construction, CQV, and operations teams
Ensure smooth transition from Mechanical Completion (MC) to Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q)
Oversee contractor performance, installation quality, and resolution of technical issues
Monitor progress against schedule, ensuring adherence to engineering, safety, and quality standards
Participate in constructability reviews and sequencing of installation works
Drive risk management activities, maintaining and reporting risk registers
Manage system turnover and handover activities, including documentation, punchlist closure, and training
Ensure compliance with GMP, GEP, and site quality standards (including documentation such as test packs and deviation reports)
Maintain strong focus on health, safety, and environmental standards on-site
Provide structured reporting on progress, risks, and issues to senior stakeholders
Support resource planning to ensure delivery of programme milestones
Experience & Requirements
Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
15+ years’ experience delivering engineering/construction projects in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environments
Proven experience leading E&I installation activities on large-scale projects
Strong background across:
Cleanrooms
HVAC
Utilities
MEP systems
Process equipment installation
Demonstrated experience managing EPCM partners and subcontractors
Strong experience with quality, turnover, and system handover processes
Experience managing interfaces with design and CQV/validation teams
Proven ability to deliver complex programmes with multiple workstreams
Strong understanding of GMP, safety, and regulatory requirements
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Previous client-side experience
Experience leading E&I teams on live construction sites
Strong knowledge of E&I systems and installation practices
Professional certifications such as PMP, Prince2, NEBOSH or equivalent
