NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
Role
The predominant purpose of the Support Service Assistant role is to provide quality domestic and catering services ensuring a clean and safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors. Within the health centres it is a core cleaning service only. You will follow agreed cleaning work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with the NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specification and the Healthcare Acquired Infection (HAI Task Force Code of Practice).
Other duties include rotating around clinical areas and departments, presenting an efficient, high‑quality service to patients and staff, following the specific schedule of work relating to defined areas, maintaining a flexible approach to the daily routine, using economic and safe cleaning agents following manufacturer instructions, using mechanical cleaning equipment, informing the supervisor of requirement for work materials, checking delivery of cleaning supplies and equipment, wearing protective clothing supplied by the department, and completing all daily/weekly sign‑off sheets for areas of work. All necessary training will be offered to ensure a safe working environment and confidence in the role.
Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes. All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements; NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde can issue a Certificate of Sponsorship only where these are met.
