We are a family-run country pub nestled in the heart of the midlands, Ballykeeran, Athlone. The Dog and Duck is known for warm hospitality, excellent pints, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. We pride ourselves on creating a space where locals and visitors alike can relax, connect, and enjoy the simple pleasures of a great pub experience.

Your Role

We're looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as Bar Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about the pub trade and dedicated to providing excellent customer service. You'll work closely with the family, helping to manage daily operations and ensuring our high standards of service are maintained.

This is a full-time, permanent position with competitive pay that reflects your experience and the responsibilities of the role.

Your Responsibilities

* Senior member of the team: You'll be a key lead on the pub floor, ensuring a smooth and efficient service. This includes opening and closing duties, managing till operations, and handling customer inquiries and feedback with professionalism and warmth.
* Team Management: You'll assist in guiding and mentoring bar staff, ensuring everyone is trained to our standards and that the team works together seamlessly.
* Operational Autonomy: We trust you to make decisions. You'll have the freedom to take initiative and solve problems as they arise, from managing busy periods to handling unexpected situations.
* Stock and Inventory Management: You will be responsible for managing all stock deliveries, including bringing in kegs and ensuring the bar is fully stocked.
* Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere: You'll be a key part of our team, connecting with regulars and new faces to keep our friendly, community spirit alive.

Who You Are

* You have proven experience working in a pub environment, ideally with some supervisory responsibilities.
* You're a natural leader who can motivate a team and ensure a high-quality service.
* You are proactive and can take initiative without constant supervision. You have a problem-solving mindset and a positive, can-do attitude.
* You have excellent people skills. You are friendly, approachable, and genuinely enjoy connecting with customers.
* You are flexible and can work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
* You are adaptable, able to thrive during both quiet shifts and our busiest nights.
* Knowledge of traditional Irish pubs, drinks, and a good pour is a must
