JOB SUMMARY
The Apprentice will undertake a Solas-approved apprenticeship programme in welding, fabrication, or pipe fitting. This role involves learning and applying technical skills in metalwork, pipe systems, and structural fabrication through a combination of on-the-job training and formal education. The goal is to become a fully qualified craftsperson capable of working independently in industrial, construction, or manufacturing environments.
This apprenticeship is particularly suited to individuals interested in working in high-specification sectors such as the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and biomedical industries, where precision, hygiene, and safety are critical. Apprentices will gain experience fabricating and installing piping systems, skids, and pressure vessels to industry standards.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities.
· Assist in the preparation, cutting, shaping, and joining of metal components using welding and fabrication techniques.
· Support the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
· Operate welding equipment (e.g., MIG, TIG, Arc) and fabrication tools safely and effectively.
· Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and P&IDs.
· Measure and mark out materials accurately using appropriate tools and techniques.
· Participate in the fabrication and assembly of skids and vessels for process systems.
· Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations and GMP standards where applicable.
· Participate in all required training phases, including off-the-job instruction at an approved training centre.
· Complete assessments, logbooks, and documentation as required by Solas and the employer.
· Collaborate with experienced tradespeople and supervisors to develop practical skills and industry knowledge.
· Carry out work at heights and in confined spaces.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum educational requirement: Junior Certificate or equivalent (Leaving Certificate preferred).
* Must meet any additional entry criteria set by the employer or training provider.
