About An Púcán
An Púcán is one of Galway's most vibrant and iconic bars, known for its lively atmosphere, extensive whiskey selection, award-winning food, live music, and warm Irish hospitality. Located in the heart of the city, it's a destination for both locals and tourists, offering a memorable experience day and night. We're now seeking a dynamic, experienced General Manager to lead the team and continue building on our success.
Position Summary
As General Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic direction of An Púcán. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational skills, a passion for hospitality, team motivation, and a sharp focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences. You'll lead a large, fast-paced team and be a visible, approachable presence on the floor.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all bar and restaurant operations, ensuring efficient service, high standards, and regulatory compliance.
Lead and manage a team of supervisors, floor staff, bartenders, chefs, and security personnel.
Drive revenue and profitability through strong financial controls, budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
Create and maintain a positive team culture through training, development, and performance management, working with HR.
Collaborate with marketing to drive promotional events, seasonal campaigns, and brand visibility.
Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and food hygiene standards.
Manage supplier relationships, stock control, and purchasing.
Handle customer queries and complaints professionally, maintaining the highest level of guest satisfaction.
Monitor and analyze sales trends and performance metrics, making data-driven decisions.
Qualifications & Experience
4+ years' experience in a similar senior hospitality management role, ideally in a high-volume bar or gastropub.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage large teams.
Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations, particularly in Irish bar culture.
Financially savvy with experience in budget control, stock management, and P&L responsibility.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Familiarity with systems, scheduling software, and other hospitality tools.
Desirable Skills
A passion for fast paced bars, live music, and Irish hospitality.
Event planning or entertainment coordination experience.
