As an R&D Co-Op Student, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in planning and design of medical devices for Orthopedic Surgeons to allow them to plan and perform their procedures. People who seek out cutting-edge research and information to expand and enhance their ability to develop new ideas into reality.* Schematic, Netlist, Layout Generation & Review: Assist in developing and reviewing electrical schematics, generating netlists, and performing layout reviews.* BOM Management: Support the generation, scrubbing, and review of Bills of Materials (BOM).* Prototype Design & Evaluation: Contribute to designing prototypes and evaluating their performance through systematic testing.* Bench Testing: Perform hands-on bench testing to verify electrical designs and assess device performance.* Electrical Stack-Ups: Participate in stack-up analysis, including:* Component de-rating analysis* Worst case/Monte Carlo analysis* LTspice simulations* Design for Excellence (DFX): Assist in Design for Manufacturing (DFMA), Design for Fabrication (DFF), and Design for Testability (DFT) reviews.* PCB and PCBA Print Review: Generate and review PCB and PCBA prints, including detailed D-prints for manufacturing.* Engineering Documentation: Draft engineering specifications, including:* Engineering Design Documents (EDD)* Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS)* Architectural Requirements Documents (ARD)* Full Design Review: Participate in comprehensive design reviews, covering schematics, layouts, BOMs, print packs, and WCA design review with electrical engineering subject matter experts (EE SMEs).* Trainer Competency Report: Collaborate with trainers and evaluators to meet competency requirements and pass technical evaluations (e.g., AO EE, Design EE, etc.).* Support problem-solving and root cause analysis to identify and evaluate potential solutions against defined requirements.* Conduct research and studies to support innovative product design..* Learn fundamental industry standards, design requirements and test strategies which align with regulatory requirements.* With supervision, create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file per company design control procedures.* Learn R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.* With supervision, work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.* Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.* Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learn while gaining experience.* Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work.* Build stable relationships.* Contribute to the project as a team member.* Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, including circuit design and analysis.* Familiarity with electrical design tools and practices within a structured or regulated environment (e.g., team projects, internships, coursework).* Ability to perform basic analysis tasks, including:* Understanding of tolerances and their impact on design.* Simple statistical methods for data evaluation.* Introductory knowledge of PCB design and manufacturing processes (e.g., stack-ups, component selection).* Awareness of Design for Excellence (DFX) concepts (basic understanding is sufficient).* Ability to interpret basic electrical drawings and schematics.* Exposure to preparing or understanding engineering reports and documentation through class assignments or internships.* Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and analysis.* Familiarity with eCAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar tools used in coursework).* Exposure to bench-testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) during labs or projects.* Willingness to learn PCB/PCBA print generation and review processes.Experience **our inclusive, people-first culture**.
