Role Purpose: The Senior Java Engineering role is a multi-faceted role. You will work within a full-stack team across all of the business services of our core platform while playing an active role in developing new services that deliver successful business outcomes. Develop supporting API's across all consumer-facing applications for your frontend peers. Be a key contributor in building out our supply network by developing externally facing 3rd party API connectors for onboarding new supply content into the platform. Manage integrations into airline- specific API suites for Single Sign On, redemption of air miles etc. The Senior Java Engineer is expected to demonstrate a high degree of initiative in terms of design and implementation decisions, while collaborating with Architects and fellow Senior Engineers to review and ensure best practices are implemented – particularly in respect of new and novel technology initiatives. You will also be expected to provide mentoring and direction to Junior and Mid-Level engineers, contributing to code reviews and design reviews with the goal of ensuring quality and maintainability of the overall codebase.

* Participate in and drive technical design discussions, validating strategies with Architects, Senior Engineers and the Engineering Manager to ensure adherence to best practices and recognised design patterns — always striving for simplicity and clarity.
* Implement efficient, high-performing solutions — avoiding unnecessary complexity while optimising compute- or I/O-intensive components where appropriate.
* Ensuring that knowledge gained is always shared outwards to the teams and the company as a whole.
* Ensuring the project is delivered to high standards of quality in all aspects including, but not limited to code, documentation, configuration management, source code control and best practice challenges of the role.
* Coping with multiple, sometimes overlapping work streams.
* Clearly communicating scope and risks to both the project management functions and the engineering functions.

Skills & Experience Required
* 6+ years development experience on Java 17.
* Deep understanding of object-oriented design and programming concepts and experience applying recognised design patterns.
* Experience of development and consumption of scalable REST APIs and REST API architecture.
* Working knowledge of frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, JPA. Particularly in terms of the design and development practices they represent (Inversion of control, Modularity, Composition, etc)
* 2+ years experience with Spring/boot.
* Comfortable with maven, and version control.
* Awareness of emerging technologies and methodologies, recognising when there are efficiencies to be gained or competitive advantages in adopting or investigating new technologies.
* Experienced developing scalable, highly-available Java Enterprise applications in a fast-moving agile environment.
* Strong SQL data management skills. NoSQL experience a bonus.
* Detailed experience using CI/CD Pipelines with Git and Jenkins; in a multi development environment.
* Exposure to AWS services (SQS, Kinesis, ElastiCache).
* Experience with vendor management / integrating with 3rd party platforms.
