The Operations & FM Manager will be leading and coordinating operational activities alongside the Projects Director while acting as the principal point of focus for Facilities Management. The position will be providing dynamic leadership capable of inspiring high-performance teams, driving operational excellence, and ensuring smooth delivery. The role necessitates a strategic mindset, hands-on leadership, and adeptness in managing relationships with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders. The Manager will be committed to achieving sustainable profitability, upholding the highest standards of service, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Duties & Responsibilities
Operations
* Demonstrate strong leadership in Health and Safety, ensuring full compliance with company policies and legal standards. Support Senior Management and the central Health & Safety team through clear, consistent communication.
* Work closely with the in-country Operations Director (Peer), senior management to contribute to bid activities in collaboration with the sales and proposals teams, ensuring the delivery of professional, profitable, and customer-focused submissions.
* Oversee resource planning for both pipeline and live projects, ensuring clarity and alignment with delivery needs for those responsible for resourcing.
* Demonstrate authentic and engaging leadership, actively supporting the delivery of business strategy through participation in company initiatives and communications.
* Set clear objectives, responsibilities, and accountabilities for team members, providing direction and managing performance to drive results.
* Ensure contract reviews generate high-quality, concise, and relevant management information that supports decision-making at the senior level.
* Maintain accuracy and integrity in project cost, value, and programme data, implementing actions to mitigate risks and maximise profitability.
* Support the Senior management in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts by providing accurate operational data.
* Build and maintain a strong reputation with clients, fostering long-term relationships and promoting a high-performance culture within the team to meet the business strategy.
* Engage with the supply chain to maintain strong relationships, understand escalation processes, and resolve issues effectively. Work with the commercial team to ensure subcontractor contracts and performance are managed compliantly.
* Represent the business at industry events and client engagements, promoting company values and services. Represent the business, upholding our core values and behaviours with all internal and external customers, clients and third parties.
* Conduct performance reviews with direct reports in line with company processes, providing constructive feedback and development planning.
* Foster continuous improvement by developing team capabilities, identifying potential, and mentoring team members to support career progression.
* Effectively manage your own time and that of your direct reports. Communicate risks to deliverables and implement mitigation strategies to maintain performance.
* Maintain business and client confidentiality, adhering to applicable Data Protection regulations and Information Security Standards in line with company and group policies and procedures.
* Proactively conduct all business activities in line with the company’s, group policies and ISO processes and procedures.
Facilities Management (in addition to above)
* Lead, manage, and commercially understand the service delivery requirements of facilities services across multiple data centre contracts and locations.
* Oversee the operational teams, site managers, and service partners to ensure high standards of performance and uptime.
* Develop and implement strategic plans for infrastructure maintenance, lifecycle management, and capacity planning to meet client contractual requirements.s
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and innovation in energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational processes.
* Ownership and management of client relationships, ensuring contract KPIs, SLAs, all reporting requirements, escalations and commercial targets are met or exceeded in line with contractual obligations
* Oversee budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditure plans to ensure accountability for profit and loss. Manage the budget of FM contracts, ensuring that data centre budgets and expense forecasts are monitored and controlled effectively.
* Drive business development, maximising profitable opportunities through new scope growth and support contract mobilisation for new data centre clients.
* Lead Vendor management, ensuring onboarding and ordering processes are maintained, vendor services, and contracts meet contractual obligations. It also includes managing internal service contracts and the operations of technical cleaning services.
* Compliance: Ensuring adherence to industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
* Leading and motivating the data centre team to achieve operational goals.
* Communicating effectively with all internal and external stakeholders, including internal IT teams, facility management, and external vendors.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred, not essential)
* Ideally 8+ years of experience in Construction and Mechanical & Electrical (M&E)sectors, facilities management, with at least 3 years in a senior or multi-site leadership role
* Proven experience managing critical environments and data centre infrastructure
* Strong commercial acumen and experience managing Facilities Management contracts and vendor performance
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
* Familiarity with data centre standards (e.g., Uptime Institute, ISO 27001, TIA-942)
* Strong leadership skills with a history of building cohesive, results-driven teams in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
* Commercial and financial awareness, including a solid understanding of profit and loss, budgeting, and cost control within project environments.
* High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in planning, reporting, and execution across all phases of project delivery.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and consistently deliver results to tight deadlines.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
* Proficient IT skills, with the ability to confidently use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for reporting, analysis, and presentation.
Preferred Certifications
* Certified Data Centre Expert (CDCE) or equivalent
* Essential to hold a suitable Health & Safety certifications, NEBOSH / IOSH / SMSTS / SafePass or other equivalent
* Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or equivalent
* ITIL Foundation or higher
* Must hold allmandatory accreditations and certificationsappropriate to the responsibilities and seniority of the role.
