Automation Engineer

Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Automation Engineer to join a high-performing manufacturing site. This role will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across Manufacturing Control Systems, Operational Technology, Machine Automation, and Digitalisation.
You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of automation systems while supporting ongoing digital transformation and continuous improvement initiatives within a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain automation systems to ensure maximum uptime and performance
Manage system access, backups, and disaster recovery processes
Troubleshoot issues, implement corrective actions, and liaise with vendor support
Identify and deliver small-scale improvement projects to optimise system performance
Support capital projects, including planning, execution, and documentation
Ensure compliance with site quality systems and regulatory requirements
Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including test scripts
Contribute to the development and implementation of automation standards and strategies
Maintain and continuously improve automation infrastructure and systems
Design and implement solutions tailored to a manufacturing environment
Deliver automation projects in line with cost, schedule, and technical objectives
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices
Requirements
Degree in Engineering (Automation, Robotics, Computer Science, or related discipline) or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in automation within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and regulatory frameworks
Experience with automation platforms such as Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, or similar
Knowledge of industry standards including GAMP, ANSI/ISA, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and GxP
Familiarity with ANSI/ISA-99/100 standards is advantageous
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including data analysis experience
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and global teams
Experience contributing to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Fluent in English (written and spoken)
