Overview of role:
The Technical Infrastructure Generalist will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the Cúram Electronic Health Record (EHR) across UPMC Ireland. Reporting to the Architecture and Technical Infrastructure Lead, this position is responsible for supporting the technical requirements of the programme including peripheral estate infrastructure, hardware deployment, user authentication, network configuration, downtime solution(s), disaster recovery, and liaising with facilities managers to support the deployment, performance, scalability, and security of the Cúram programme. This role provides tactical support for the Architecture and Technical Infrastructure workstream and ensures close alignment of multiple technical capabilities with clinical and business system deployment. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in enterprise health IT infrastructure, EHR technical requirements (preferably MEDITECH), and infrastructure modernization in a regulated healthcare environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
General Accountabilities
You will have responsibility for supporting the Architecture and Technical Infrastructure workstream within the UPMC Ireland Cúram transformation programme. You will support the implementation & operational delivery of the programme within the project scope and governance, including identification of your stream's stakeholders. You will collaborate with the other workstream leads where required.
For the Cúram programme to be deployed, you will be responsible for the end-user experience relating to technical requirements, with the other workstream members. You will support the decision-making process towards the resolution of issues impacting your workstream alongside the Architecture and Technical Infrastructure Stream Lead.
Stakeholder Engagement:
* Support and contribute to the Architecture & Technical Infrastructure engagement sessions, adoption planning, and go-live readiness efforts.
* Support operational delivery of workstream mandate alongside the workstream lead
* Support regular workgroup meetings, tracking of deliverables and milestones, document decisions, and escalate risks.
* Serve as liaison between architecture and infrastructure functions and the EHR implementation team.
* Provide hands-on support during go-live and stabilisation phases, ensuring continuity of operations and rapid issue resolution relating to data migration.
* Support the planning and delivery of handover training to the future EHR BAU team members.
* Collaborate with governance committees to support ongoing optimisation and training needs.
Architecture and Technical Infrastructure Design:
* Support defining the target-state technical architecture to support the Cúram programme, including decisions around peripheral estate, downtime and disaster recovery models, hardware deployment, user authentication and network configuration.
* Liaise with facilities managers to ensure requirements are comprehensively assessed and translated into infrastructure designs that are supported and delivered (where required) by the facilities managers.
* Ensure the infrastructure architecture aligns with clinical workflow needs and integration points across ancillary systems such as PACS, LIS, RIS, and pharmacy applications.
* Collaborate with MEDITECH and internal IT teams to understand system specifications, infrastructure dependencies, and technical constraints.
* Contribute to the design on network architecture to ensure effective, efficient, secure, and reliable access for all clinical and operational users.
* Support ensuring there is sufficient compute, storage, and backup capabilities in place to meet operational and business continuity requirements.
Implementation development, testing and deployment:
* Participate in technical readiness activities including infrastructure (core and peripheral) provisioning, configuration, and deployment.
* Assist with performance testing, scalability assessments, and end-to-end system monitoring configurations.
* Support the design and execution of go-live cutover plans, including rollback strategies and system validation procedures.
* Support collaboration with IT operations and MEDITECH technical resources to perform system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and technical validation of all infrastructure components.
* Act as an escalation point for infrastructure-related issues during build, test, go-live, and stabilisation phases.
* Support ensuring system reliability through proactive monitoring, logging, and rapid resolution protocols.
* Support the identification and troubleshooting of issues in collaboration with IT, finance, and clinical teams.
* Act as the escalation point for troubleshooting infrastructure and architecture-related issues during stabilisation.
Documentation & Governance:
* Support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including current state/future state maps, risk/issue logs, decision registers, benefits registers, and change logs.
* Support governance processes by support the preparation of materials for the Technical Design Forum and senior management meetings.
* Contribute to defining and tracking of key performance indicator (KPI) readiness, adoption, and post-go-live performance.
* Assist in documenting lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Support ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to technical capabilities and their role in clinical safety/digital health.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required
* Minimum 4 years of experience in health IT infrastructure and enterprise system architecture.
* Direct experience with MEDITECH Expanse or equivalent enterprise EHRs e.g. EPIC or Oracle Cerner.
* Experience with the technical architecture of EHR systems, including system hosting, performance tuning, and disaster recovery.
* Understanding of infrastructure components: networking, peripheral estates, identity management, business continuity solutions, disaster recovery etc.
* Good project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
* Good analytical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across clinical and operational teams
Preferred
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Experience integrating EHR systems with ancillary systems (PACS, LIS, RIS, pharmacy, etc.).
* Knowledge of infrastructure frameworks such as TOGAF or ITIL.
* Experience working within Irish or EU healthcare systems, with understanding of regional compliance standards and data sovereignty requirements.
* Knowledge of change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR), and regulatory requirements.
* Experience developing training resources and SOPs.
