Speech & Language Therapist - Acute Hospital (Ireland) Salary: €40-€50 per hour Location: Ireland (Acute Hospital Setting) Contract: Full-time, part-time, long-term locum About the Role Emerald Locums are seeking a dedicated and skilled Speech & Language Therapist to join an acute hospital service. This role offers the opportunity to work within a fast-paced clinical environment, supporting adults with complex communication and swallowing needs across medical, surgical, orthopaedic, stroke, oncology and critical care caseloads. You will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, with strong professional support from both the service and Emerald Locums. Key Responsibilities * Provide assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with communication, cognitive-communication, voice and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia. * Conduct bedside swallowing assessments and recommend safe oral intake plans or referrals for instrumental assessments (FEES/VFSS where available). * Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans and monitor clinical outcomes. * Collaborate effectively with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to support coordinated patient care. * Participate in MDT meetings, ward rounds and discharge planning. * Provide education and advice to patients, carers and colleagues on communication and swallowing needs. * Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional and hospital standards. * Contribute to service audits, quality improvement and ongoing CPD activities. Requirements * CORU registration as a Speech & Language Therapist (essential). * Recognised degree in Speech & Language Therapy. * Clinical experience in adult communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia. * Strong clinical reasoning, teamwork and communication skills. * Ability to work effectively in a busy acute hospital environment. * Excellent organisational and time-management abilities. Desirable: * Acute hospital experience. * Experience with stroke, neurology, tracheostomy or critical care caseloads. * Familiarity with instrumental swallowing assessments (FEES/VFSS).
