We are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate/Senior level, depending on experience) to join our team for a variety of projects.
This vacancy is based at our Head Office in Kilkenny. The role initially requires working in the office for the first 6 months, with potential for hybrid options thereafter, depending on experience and agreement.
Key Responsibilities
* Design Mechanical Services installations for Buildings in sectors such as Educational, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial & Retail, including HVAC, Water Services, Soils & Wastes, Gas, and Building Automation Control Systems, adhering to current regulations and standards.
* Demonstrate strong technical ability in Mechanical / Building Services Engineering & Design.
* Create detailed mechanical design layouts, schematics, and calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project goals.
* Independently address design and technical challenges to achieve optimal solutions.
* Collaborate with clients and project engineers to define requirements and develop technical solutions.
* Develop and agree on design processes and deliverables.
* Produce accurate budget estimates, assess contractor progress claims & variations.
* Maintain project documentation according to ISO standards.
* Participate in QA audits, peer reviews, and technical workshops.
* Stay informed on design trends through seminars, CPDs, and exhibitions.
* Conduct site inspections and prepare reports on mechanical systems, sourcing budget info and data for project teams.
* Review mechanical service submittals for compliance.
* Monitor project timelines to ensure timely and within-budget delivery of mechanical designs.
* Lead projects from a design perspective, including technical queries, development, services coordination, and review of submittals.
* Mentor Junior and Intermediate engineers where relevant.
* Assist with tender bids, including technical reports and budget estimates.
* Report to the Associate Director / Director on project performance.
Key Requirements
* Minimum Level 7 Degree / Diploma in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
* Ideally 5+ years' experience in design within an engineering consultancy.
* Proven mechanical engineering design experience in a design office.
* Ability to lead & deliver projects complying with regulations and standards.
* Ability to work within a team and independently.
* Experience in multidisciplinary teams and client-facing roles.
* Strong communication and presentation skills.
* Uphold ethics and Lawler values, demonstrating integrity and reliability.
* Knowledge of mechanical systems including Soils & Waste, Plumbing, Ventilation & A/C, Building Automation, in line with Irish Regulations.
* Experience with ISO standards and project scopes.
* Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Magicad, 3D energy modeling tools like IES (preferred), and MS Office.
* Knowledge of current Design Guides, Building Regulations, EN Standards.
* Full Clean European Drivers Licence or in process.
* Proof of right to work in Ireland for EU/EEA nationals; valid work and residence permissions for non-EU/EEA nationals.
