The role
Social Care Worker / Support Worker - Day Services in Cork City & County
Bitrecruit is recruiting on behalf of Occupop for a Social Care Worker or Support Worker (HCA) to provide day services in Cork City & County. The role involves supporting individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities and/or autism, promoting their community inclusion and equal citizenship.
Job details

Location: Cork City & County (Mayfield, Milstreet, Monahan Road)
Job type: Full time, 8‑hour shifts Monday to Friday between 8 am and 8 pm
Salary: €14.50–€15.00 per hour (entry level)
Probation: 6 months
Vetting: Reference checks, Garda Vetting, security clearance required
Reporting to: Team Lead / Day Service Manager

Responsibilities

Support service users with intellectual/physical disability or autism in daily living activities.
Assist clients in making sense of their environment, learning new skills and maximizing independence.
Advocate for clients, promote participation in care/placement plans and accompany them to appointments and events.
Manage challenging behaviours using a positive behaviour support plan.
Provide accurate reports on client activities to management and attend staff meetings.
Assist with mobility for clients with reduced mobility and undertake tasks assigned by manager or team leader.
Promote service users’ engagement in the community and support integration.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the post as required.

Qualifications

Permission to work in Ireland.
For Support Worker: minimum QQI Level 5 major award in Health or Social Care (or commitment to complete it within 2 years).
For Social Care Worker: minimum B.A. in Social Care or QQI Level 7 plus registration as a Social Care Worker with CORU by Nov 2025 (or relevant qualification with registration).
Full clean driver’s licence.
One year experience in a Healthcare or Social Care setting is advantageous.
Experience/knowledge of report writing and client support plans is an advantage.

Candidate Skills

Ability to support clients respectfully, focusing on their goals and needs.
Understanding of preventing and managing challenging behaviour.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable with information technology and reporting.
