Job Description
The Electrical Engineer (EE) is responsible for the design, standardisation, and integration of AC and DC power distribution systems for factory-built, skidded power solutions. The role has a strong focus on project based engineering, supporting the development, configuration, and manufacture of switchgear skids for data centre and critical infrastructure applications.
This position includes design for integration of of MV/LV switchgear, UPS systems, DC power systems, transformers, earthing and bonding, lighting systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), and associated control and monitoring interfaces into a skidded solution for customer projects. The Electrical Engineer will perform power system studies, calculations, and analysis to ensure safe, compliant, and repeatable designs.
The EE will work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, integration facilities, and project management to deliver compliant, standardised electrical designs that meet customer requirements, European regulations, and internal Vertiv quality standards. The role also supports technical sales, product development, factory testing, and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as Lead Electrical Engineer for assigned projects from pre-sales technical support through design, manufacture, testing, and commissioning.
* Develop standardised and configurable electrical designs aligned with IEC standards, EU directives, and internal OEM design rules.
* Design and integrate MV/LV switchgear, UPS systems, DC power systems, transformers, generators, and auxiliary systems into skidded solutions.
* Collaborate with switchgear and controls teams to define protection philosophies, control schemes, and automation using PLCs and/or protection relays along with interfacing requirements
* Prepare and maintain electrical Bills of Materials (BOM), standard part lists, and approved vendor selections.
* Support the development and maintenance of standard drawings, templates, and product documentation for repeatable manufacturing.
* Apply knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, TCP/IP, RS-485, and Ethernet for monitoring and control integration.
* Provide technical oversight and guidance to factory integration partners during assembly and wiring of skidded solutions.
* Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities, including test procedures, witnessing, and issue resolution.
* Review and approve supplier technical documentation, drawings, and product submittals.
* Ensure compliance with EU directives (Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, Machinery Directive where applicable) and relevant IEC standards.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and reliability.
* Provide technical input to sales, proposals, and customer technical clarifications.
* Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and post-shipment technical assistance as required.
* Travel to manufacturing sites to support audits, testing, and start-up activities when necessary.
* Contribute innovative, value-engineered solutions that improve standard products without compromising safety, quality, or performance.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent recognised European qualification.
* Minimum of 4 years' experience in electrical engineering, preferably within an OEM, manufacturer, or factory-built systems environment.
* Strong knowledge of MV/LV switchboards and switchgear design, integration, and manufacturing practices.
* Solid understanding of IEC standards applicable to power distribution systems and electrical assemblies.
* Working knowledge of the IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and ability to interpret equivalent requirements across EU jurisdictions.
* Proficiency in Autodesk engineering tools, including AutoCAD and Revit.
* Experience creating and maintaining standardised design documentation and BOMs.
* Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and manufacturing drawings.
* Familiarity with industrial control and monitoring systems used in critical power environments.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on practical, manufacturable solutions.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
* High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and product teams.
* Experience supporting FAT/SAT and commissioning activities.
