Job Overview
Purpose of role: Provide a range of services to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities and/or autism in a residential setting, person‑centred and holistic support.
Salary: Support Workers: €14.50‑€18.00 per hour. Social Care Workers: €16.00‑€19.86 per hour.
Job type: Full time or Part time, Permanent.
Shifts: 12‑hour shifts (8 am‑8 pm and 8 pm‑8 am). Flexibility required due to 24/7 nature.
Reporting: This post reports to the Team Lead.
Eligibility: Permission to work in Ireland.
Qualifications
One year of experience in a healthcare setting.
QQI/FETAC Level 7 (or higher) Award in Health and Welfare, Health Care Support, Applied Social Care or a relevant degree.
Minimum QQI Level 5 qualification in Health or Social Care (or equivalent) for the Support Worker role.
Other relevant qualifications (e.g. Nursing, Addiction Studies, Teaching, Accredited Youth Training, Psychology) considered in light of the service/client group.
Preferred / Advantageous
Experience working in a residential setting.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance and HIQA standards.
Experience/knowledge of report writing and client support plans.
Candidate Skills and Experience
Ability to support clients respectfully, centred on their goals and needs.
Understanding of preventing and managing challenging behaviour.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable with information technology and report preparation.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
Support service users with intellectual/physical disability or autism.
Help users make sense of their environment and learn new skills.
Assist with daily living activities.
Provide personal care, including continence support if required.
Promote a meaningful life with a focus on equal citizenship.
Facilitate community participation and integration.
Advocate for clients/residents.
Support planning and execution of care/placement plans.
Accompany service users to appointments and events.
Assist users with reduced mobility.
Carry out duties assigned by manager/team leader.
Manage challenging behaviours using a positive behaviour support plan.
Provide reports on client activities to management.
Attend staff meetings and contribute to care plan implementation.
