Overview
Our Senior Radiation Therapist will join the Bon Secours Radiotherapy Centre in partnership with UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre in Cork.
Responsibilities
* Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for patients of all ages, visitors, medical staff and co-workers.
* Delivers radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan.
* Ensures safety in patient care through the consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration; reports deviations to the Clinical Specialist/Lead Clinical Specialist.
* Ensures quality of treatment delivery through documentation of treatment records; reviews portal images and adjusts treatment fields as indicated.
* Explains treatment procedures to patient and/or family; refers medical questions to appropriate personnel.
* Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, takes localization radiographs, assists with contrast agents, performs measurements for treatment calculation, and documents data from simulation.
* Inputs treatment-related data into the verify-and-record system.
* Assists in the orientation and supervision of students during clinical rotations and evaluates student performance.
* Assists in treatment-related procedures and at other UPMC locations as needed.
* Uses effective communication to explain procedures, responds to patient concerns, and reinforces education and side effect management information.
* Performs and documents daily/weekly QA for assigned equipment; notifies leads of findings outside normal range; participates in quality improvement programs.
* Attends multidisciplinary team meetings; completes daily treatment schedule and maintains accurate records including billing codes.
* Maintains a safe, orderly treatment room and provides on-call coverage for emergencies.
* Assists the Lead CS and Clinical Specialists in day-to-day operation of treatment units and CT unit to ensure smooth daily workflow.
Qualifications & Experience
* Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program in an Irish/EU/AMA-approved institution.
* CORU Registration
* At least 3 years relevant post-graduate Radiotherapy experience.
* Promotion to senior level will be based on merit and may occur at regular annual reviews once adequate experience is reached.
