On behalf of Deloitte, AMS are looking for a COBOL Developer for an initial 12-month contract based in Ireland with a negotiable hybrid working model (offices in Dublin).
Purpose of the role:
Join a major public sector organisation at the heart of Ireland's critical national services - delivered in partnership with Deloitte, a world-class consultancy.
This is an initial 12-month contract on a multi-year programme of work supporting some of the most critical legacy systems in the Irish public sector.
COBOL remains a highly niche and in-demand skillset, and opportunities like this -bining long-term contracting stability with national impact - are rare.

What you'll do:
1. Produce estimates for requirements where
2. Code new developments and/or enhancements in line with standards.
3. Create functional design specifications and/or user
4. Adhere to code quality, data, and unit testing standards.
5. Identify and implement integration tests and automation tests as
6. Participation in peer reviews as required.
7. Supervise and coach junior resources and ensure knowledge transfer to other colleagues actively takes place.
8. Provide system test support when code is migrated to System Test (including SIR resolution).
9. Assist with test and live releases.
10. Develop familiarity with processes in the overall domain of the team's area of work.
11. Where technical challenges or blocks are identified within the team, ensure that team leads are made aware in a timely manner to support the management and triaging of delays or risks to the project.

13. Ensure that any assigned tasks in development and planning tools related to project development tasks are updated e.
14. Updates to Jira requirements, work time logs, etc. for tracking purposes.
15. Collaborate with testers, ensuring that information is shared and testers are kept up to date on expected functionality and
16. Perform root cause analysis of issues and organise live incident tickets or bug
17. Provide / propose fixes, as required, to resolve live issues.
The skills you'll need:
Anyone with hands-on COBOL experience will be considered as a strong option for this role. In addition you should have:
18. Excellent written and oralmunication.
19. Analytical and problem solving skills.
20. Experience working in standards driven environments.
21. Experience working effectively alongside application development and technical colleagues, testers, support teams and all levels of management.
22. Experience working with data using relational databases such as SQL and Ingres, and NoSQL frameworks such as Hadoop.
23. Familiarity with techniques for parsing and manipulating structured data formats, RDBMS, XML, JSON, text files, etc.
