Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Laboratory Manager to lead both the Microbiology and Chemistry Laboratories within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a key leadership position responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, and developing a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a team of Laboratory Technicians across microbiology and chemistry functions.
* Plan and coordinate daily analytical workloads, ensuring testing and reporting align with business priorities.
* Monitor performance against KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
* Optimise laboratory schedules and staffing to ensure efficient operations.
* Support quality assurance by liaising with the Quality Manager and operational teams on test results and trends.
* Promote team development through coaching, performance reviews, and training.
* Ensure accuracy and timeliness of data entry in LIMS and other systems.
* Oversee proficiency testing, validation of new methods, and laboratory infrastructure projects.
* Maintain full compliance with internal quality systems, food safety standards, and legislative requirements.
* Collaborate with HR and other departments on people management and operational alignment.
Experience & Qualifications
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in a laboratory management or supervisory role within food, healthcare, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
* Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
* Strong understanding of quality management systems and food safety legislation.
* Proven ability to deliver against KPIs and operational targets.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with SAP and LIMS is highly desirable.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.
