Overall Purpose of the Job
Accurately and efficiently oversee the preparation of meals, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products. Prepare and portion food items prior to cooking and assist where necessary. Perform duties related to food and final plate preparation, including serving and garnishing cooked items, and preparing appropriate items for hot and cold menu plates.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Report for duty on time according to the weekly rota.
2. Acquire comprehensive knowledge of all food and beverage policies, procedures, and hygiene standards, including HACCP.
3. Store crockery and cooking utensils on clean shelves and in clean cupboards/drawers.
4. Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all storage areas.
5. Ensure health and safety of yourself and others in the kitchen area.
6. Maintain good stock control in the cleaning store and record weekly stocktaking.
7. Prepare and serve all food and products consistently according to the canteen’s recipes, portioning, and serving standards.
8. Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations.
9. Monitor and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperatures.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience in a similar cooking environment is desirable.
* Ability to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen staff, and customers.
* Physical ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift as required in the kitchen environment.
* Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods.
