Meta is seeking a forward-thinking Network Operations Engineer to support field services within our Edge and Network Services (ENS) Operations team. The ideal candidate will possess skills across various technical domains, including systems, tooling, automation, security, optical/telecom infrastructure, hyperscale data center structured cabling, and IP networking. You will collaborate with internal business teams, external vendors, network design/engineering, and cross-functional teams to develop strategies for integrating new technologies and supporting existing ones.
The role's objectives include understanding technical drivers for the business, organizing strategies to ensure operational supportability, and representing ENS to ensure the success of critical projects. Our team enhances operational efficiency and reliability in one of the world's most dynamic networks. The right candidate will have proven experience in fast-paced environments, with a passion for resolving operational pain points through process improvements and automation.
Network Operations Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Lead cross-functional infrastructure projects across data centers, networks, logistics, supply chain, compliance, legal, and software engineering within a matrix organization.
2. Identify opportunities to improve existing tools and processes, and provide feedback on policies and procedures to support rapid platform and customer base expansion.
3. Manage interactions with third-party hardware providers, colocation, telecom carriers, and managed service partners.
4. Align business risk management and change management efforts for edge infrastructure use cases.
5. Maintain effective documentation of operational processes, procedures, and policies; ensure data accuracy in systems.
6. Participate in Tier IV+ on-call rotation to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and develop skills and automation solutions.
7. Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for operational issues across infrastructure architectures and vendor performance.
8. Drive analysis of operational events to identify automation opportunities, aiming to resolve all Tier-1 faults via software.
9. Provide hands-on leadership during analysis, solution design, testing, implementation, and post-implementation phases.
10. Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% as required.
11. Analyze tactical situations, troubleshoot, and solve problems across systems and tools.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
* 3+ years of experience in operating, deploying, or designing network, optical, or physical infrastructure; experience with large-scale systems is a plus.
* Experience establishing cross-functional relationships to achieve goals.
* Familiarity with organizational and digital transformation initiatives.
* Intermediate knowledge of IP networking, routing, and switching (TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS); certifications like CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, RHCSA are a plus.
* Experience guiding external vendors and evaluating key success metrics.
* Knowledge of physical infrastructure design, including rack layouts, cabling, connectors, optics, power, and cooling.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience shaping organizational design in fast-paced environments.
* Skilled in collaborating with global managed service providers to support field operations.
