Position Overview:
As the Senior Design Manager / Document Controller will oversee the design coordination, documentation, and compliance of all data center design disciplines on high-performance, scalable, and sustainable data centers. This role involves managing design processes, ensuring accurate documentation is being delivered, creating new processes and supporting cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, efficient systems that power large-scale data center operations across multiple regions.
Candidate will be responsible for managing project delivery, design delivery schedule, design meetings, and all engineering deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage design team meetings for data center project delivery.
* Conduct and coordinate design reviews to ensure compliance with specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
* Monitor design phase milestones, ensuring timely delivery of design packages and coordination with project schedules.
* Set up and manage documentation flow throughout project lifecycle.
* Review all documentation being issued by design team.
* Develop and set standards for engineering document control.
* Develop and refine design standards and guidelines to ensure consistency for all disciplines across all data centers.
* Maintain document control systems: utilize document management platforms (e.g., Procore, Aconex) to organize, track, and update documents, ensuring version control and accessibility for project stakeholders.
* Ensure Compliance and Standards -verify that all documentation adheres to industry standards.
* Collaborate with construction, and operations teams to collect, review, and distribute technical documents, facilitating seamless communication and project alignment.
* Monitor document submission and approval timelines, providing regular updates to project team and ensuring milestones are met and delays are minimized.
* Prepare and organize documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring traceability and readiness for compliance reviews.
* Manage revisions and updates to documents, ensuring all changes are accurately recorded, communicated, and incorporated into project workflows.
* Identify and implement improvements in document control procedures to enhance accuracy, accessibility, and efficiency in data center project delivery.
Required Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in project management or a related field.
* 8+ years of experience in document control, with at least 5 years in mission critical projects and 3 years with design management.
* Extensive experience with project management document management software (Procore, Aconex, AutoDesk Docs, Smartheets etc.)
* Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate simple technical and complex nontechnical concepts into clear, actionable strategies for both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Attention to details in order to maintain high quality standards.
* Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to influence and manage key stakeholders across engineering, construction, product, and operations teams.
* Analytical Skills: Demonstrated success in analyzing program data, defining KPIs, and reporting on success metrics.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in global data center projects.
* Hyperscaler: Familiarity with (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and Meta) cloud providers’ data center requirements.
* Global Experience: Experience working on projects in global markets, including knowledge of international land, energy and/or data center regulations and compliance.
* Technical Background: technical understanding of data centers.
* Integrity and Ethical Standards: Build trust, ensure fairness, and foster long-term, transparent relationships with suppliers.
* Effective Communication: The ability to clearly convey expectations and requirements to suppliers and negotiation parties, while understanding their needs and concerns. Comfortable delivering written and verbal presentations to internal leadership teams.
* Emotional Intelligence (EQ): Ability to understand the emotions, cultural nuances, and motivations of others, while effectively managing one's own emotions during high-pressure negotiations.
* Strategic Thinking: Ability to think big picture while also managing granular details.
* Adaptability: Proven track record of managing change and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
* Leadership: Ability to manage cross-functional teams and external vendors.
* Experience with complex, multi-site projects: Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and deliver exceptional results.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills: Capable of interfacing with senior leadership and diverse stakeholders.
* Creative problem-solver: Ability to troubleshoot and optimize system performance effectively.
* Attention to Detail: Meticulous in planning, designing, and reviewing documentation to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and reliability.
Working Conditions:
* This role requires occasional travel to data center sites across multiple regions (up to 25% travel).
* Ability to work in both office environments and active construction sites, adhering to all safety protocols.
Expected Salary Range: $150,000 – $200,000 including Bonus.
Location: Denver, CO, but will also consider candidates in Alexandria, VA, Seattle, WA, or Austin, TX. Will also consider remote candidates.
