OVERVIEW
Soul Atlas Universe is a growing creative studio producing original films, games, and comics in the fantasy genre. We are seeking a Tax Advisor licensed to work in Ireland, working directly with the COO and Legal Team.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We are creating films, games, and comics for our fantasy universe (think Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc., but smaller). We started 4 years ago as a small team who were initially supposed to package a TV show. Finding ourselves unwilling to sign away our IP, we decided to build out the universe ourselves to retain creative control. Now, 4 1/2 years later, our team has grown to over 150 members (far over 200 if you count prior or short term project members).
Our current slate includes 3 short films (2 in active development, 1 in post production, 30min each), a comic book series (9 issues of Season 1, 45 pages/issue), and two games (one Card Game online and offline version featuring our characters and factions, and one TTRPG with one shots, campaign rules, and region expansions). We also produce music, art, and have our own in-house media marketing element and ops.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise on the tax implications of our compensation framework, particularly a profit participation and royalties model designed for our global team
Develop the profit‑share system in collaboration with our legal team
Provide guidance on the interaction between our operating company and our new holding company, including the tax treatment of IP licensing arrangements, inter‑company payments, and future investment structures.
Advise on Tax Incentives and savings for the transmedia type companies
Advise on the timing of tax events
Guidance on the interaction between the compensation structure and Irish Revenue office
YOUR BACKGROUND
You are a CPA, CAI, or Solicitor (or similar qualifications in Ireland that allow you to practice tax advisory).
Experience working with Irish Revenue, CRO, as well as SMEs/early‑stage or scaling companies
Experience working with situations that are not entirely standard and are comfortable working alongside employment counsel and finance leadership to design defensible structures.
Experience setting up revenue treatment (i.e. royalties, profit participation, deferred compensation) from scratch
Structured, process & detail‑oriented in both work and communication
Self‑starter: Not reliant on micromanagement
A PLUS:
Prior exposure to IP driven companies & multi‑company structure
Love for the fantasy genre
COMPENSATION DETAILS
Time Investment: Part‑time. Approximately 2-4 hours/week (flexible week on week, as we understand you may have other commitments) – you set your own boundaries and communicate your availability. We are happy to work with you temporarily if you prefer a shorter collaboration. We can outline different “Phases” for this purpose.
Salary: At this point, there is no salary for anyone in our team (from the CEO to the producers to the set runner, nobody draws a salary). We instead give parts of the profit away:
Profit Participation: We are currently in the development of a profit share/royalty system that will award everyone who is part of the project a piece of the pie. Upon request for an interview, we will send you a detailed breakdown so you can make a decision on whether or not you want to continue with the application. This is fundamentally an investment contract (time invested, profit participation/royalties gained), and as a result, we are happy to support any due diligence you want to undergo ahead of joining.
