Job Description
You’ll be joining the Garden Design Systems team, an international, remote-first group of talented systems practitioners. We’re in an exciting chapter of time with Zendesk’s customer experiences expanding in capability and being driven by AI. The Garden Design Systems team gets to be on the forefront of that journey to help craft how human, intelligent, and scalable experiences are made across Zendesk.
You are a motivated designer with a passion for design systems and a strong foundation in your craft. You are detail-oriented, with a high standard for visual and interaction design, and you have a knack for spotting patterns and opportunities for consistency. You are developing your skills in accessibility and localization, and you’re eager to learn from and collaborate with end-users and colleagues to help build robust, clear, and refined systems. You value the importance of stepping back from the artboard to focus on relationships and communicating our design system to cross-functional partners. You appreciate the value of consistency but are open to feedback and change.
What you’ll be doing
* Be a key contributor on a small-but-mighty team that makes an outsized impact
* Help augment and evolve our product design system, Garden, by applying and documenting component usage, patterns, anti-patterns, and visual layouts
* Contribute to projects from start to iteration—you know design is never “finished”
* Write and maintain documentation that enables product managers, designers, and engineers to get the most out of Garden
* Pair with UX engineers to help transform Garden components and patterns into working artifacts for implementation
* Collaborate with global design, product, and engineering teams to help establish UI pattern usage and industry standards
What you bring to the role
Basic qualifications
* 2–4 years of professional experience designing consumer or SaaS applications
* Proficient understanding of current and emerging UI patterns, and able to consider the impact of design decisions at scale
* A drive to push the boundaries of enterprise software design with modern web UI patterns and implementation technologies
* Solid verbal and written communication skills; able to explain functionality and rationale
* A strong visual portfolio that showcases your work, your role on projects, and your systems-oriented approach from inception through delivery
* Able and willing to flex your working hours to effectively work with the global team
Preferred qualifications
* 1–2 years of design systems experience (member of a team or contributor)
* Demonstrable experience designing UI for accessibility and localization
* Experience working in a remote-first environment
* Nice-to-have: motion design experience
Tool stack
* Figma - well-versed, especially the design system features
* Markdown - for writing documentation
* Github - for reviews and QA
* HTML, CSS, React - no coding required, but you must be able to converse with developers about implementation details
