The Role
The
Payroll Specialist – UK & Ireland
is responsible for accurate, compliant end-to-end payroll processing for temporary workers, contractors, and permanent employees in a staffing agency environment. This role ensures compliance with UK and Irish payroll, tax, and employment regulations and serves as a subject-matter expert for internal teams, contractors, and clients.
Payroll Processing
* Process weekly and monthly payrolls across the UK and Ireland, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to payroll schedules.
* Calculate PAYE, National Insurance (UK), PRSI and USC (Ireland), and statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, parental leave, and sick leave.
* Support multiple employment types, including PAYE workers, fixed-term employees, and agency contractors, within a high-volume environment.
Compliance & Reporting
* Ensure ongoing compliance with HMRC requirements (RTI submissions, FPS/EPS) and Irish Revenue regulations (PAYE Modernisation, RPNs).
* Administer UK auto-enrolment pension schemes and support Irish pension deductions where applicable.
* Monitor changes to payroll and employment legislation and proactively implement required updates.
* Support payroll audits, reconciliations, and statutory reporting activities.
Timesheets & Systems
* Validate and process timesheets submitted through VMS and internal systems (e.g., Beeline).
* Manage payroll adjustments, corrections, off-cycle payments, and final pay calculations.
* Maintain accurate and compliant payroll data across payroll, HRIS, and billing systems using third-party platforms (e.g., ADP, Sage, Workday, or local providers).
Who You Are
* You have 2–4 years of payroll experience in the UK and/or Ireland.
* You have experience working in a staffing agency, recruitment, or high-volume payroll environment (strongly preferred).
* You have a strong understanding of UK and Irish statutory payroll requirements.
* You have hands-on experience with payroll systems, VMS platforms, and advanced Excel reporting.
* You have a CIPP Foundation Certificate in Payroll or CIPP Practitioner Certificate in Payroll (preferred) for the UK.
* You have an IPASS Payroll Technician Certificate or IPASS Associate Payroll Specialist qualification (preferred) for Ireland.
* You have a diploma or degree in Payroll, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
The salary range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is £40,000 – £45,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
