Veterinary Practitioner – Small Animal
Mullingar Pet Hospital, Co Westmeath
Full-time or Part-time, Permanent
Salary up to €67,000 DOE
A Confident Clinician’s Role With Real Flexibility
Mullingar Pet Hospital is offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon who enjoys autonomy, variety and a sensible work‑life balance. This is a permanent role within a friendly, well‑run local practice, ideal for a vet who is confident in sole charge, routine surgery and medical case work‑ups, and who values being trusted to do their job well.
Whether you are looking for a full‑time position or a part‑time role that fits around your life, we are genuinely open to shaping the rota to suit the right person.
The Practice
Mullingar Pet Hospital is a small, welcoming practice in the heart of the Midlands, serving a loyal local client base. The team currently includes one veterinary surgeon, one nurse, an animal care assistant and a practice manager, creating a close‑knitted environment where everyone plays a key role. The clinic is well equipped with modern diagnostic tools including digital X‑ray, dental equipment and ultrasound, allowing you to work cases thoroughly and confidently.
Mullingar itself is a busy, well‑connected town with excellent amenities and an active lifestyle on the doorstep. From walking and cycling to fishing and golf, there is plenty to enjoy locally, with Dublin just 45 minutes away by road or public transport.
The Role & Working Pattern
This is a first‑opinion small animal role focused on consultations and routine surgical procedures, with the opportunity to manage your own cases from start to finish. There is no out‑of‑hours, Sunday or bank holiday work, making this a particularly attractive option for vets seeking balance without compromising on clinical engagement.
Full‑time hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, with every second Saturday morning from 9 am to 1.30 pm. For part‑time candidates, flexible options are available, such as a mix of morning clinics and full days, alongside a shared Saturday rota. Sole charge will form part of the role at times, so confidence and experience are essential.
Who We’re Looking For
This position is suited to a VCI‑registered veterinary surgeon, or someone eligible to register, who is legally permitted to work in Ireland. You will have solid experience in first‑opinion small animal practice and be comfortable handling routine surgeries and consultations independently. As this is a sole‑charge role at times, it is not suitable for new graduates or those requiring ongoing mentorship.
