Role Summary
The Senior Investment Director will lead the Climate and Energy Transition team of 10 investment professionals, reporting to the Deputy Director - Head of Investment. The successful candidate will be a member of the ISIF Portfolio Management Committee which reviews all ISIF investments prior to recommending them to the ISIF Investment Committee and plays a key role in the management and monitoring of the overall ISIF portfolio.
Principal Accountabilities
Lead the development and execution of ISIF’s Climate Investment strategy, ensuring alignment with national objectives and broader ISIF goals.
Originate and deliver high-quality investments—both direct and platform—across key relevant areas such as energy, transport, waste, enterprise, and the built environment.
Drive a robust pipeline of climate-related transactions from origination through to IC approval, close and portfolio oversight.
Build and maintain strong networks with intermediaries, advisors, financial institutions, and government departments relevant to the climate agenda.
Stay current on climate and energy policy and regulatory developments; represent ISIF in key climate-related forums.
Lead complex transactions, negotiations, and portfolio activities, ensuring alignment with ISIF’s dual mandate for financial return and economic impact.
Structuring of transactions to align with ISIF’s mandate, including development and implementation of appropriate investment vehicles.
Oversight of negotiation of appropriate investment terms and conditions.
Analysis of the opportunity and progression of the investment recommendation through internal governance and approval processes.
Oversee due diligence, legal documentation, and transaction execution; ensure best‑in‑class analysis and compliance with ISIF standards.
Develop and motivate a high-performing investment team aligned with the clients culture and values and support and oversee the team’s professional development.
Continuously review and enhance investment strategy, portfolio structure, and individual investments.
Cultivate relationships across the clients team and externally to advance ISIF’s mandate; provide Climate and Energy sector‑relevant insights to colleagues and stakeholders.
Act as ISIF’s nominee Director on the boards of select direct investments.
Knowledge
The ideal candidate will:
Have a relevant third level degree qualification; Advanced degree, and/or professional qualification are helpful.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the issues surrounding climate change, energy transition, policy, and associated investment opportunities.
Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities.
Demonstrate a strong track record in climate related investment with technical proficiency across a range of climate/energy sub‑sectors.
Strong project management/delivery capabilities and stakeholder relationship management is essential.
Experience
10+ years of private investment and/or corporate finance experience in Ireland or abroad, ideally in Climate or Energy Transition.
A strong track record of sourcing and executing private investments.
An extensive network of relevant contacts.
Significant transaction leadership experience.
Familiarity with key technologies in area of climate and energy is an advantage.
Ability to engage with potential co‑investors to secure participation in investments alongside ISIF.
Experience developing and delivering strategies involving input from, and coordination across, multiple stakeholders.
Broad range of capital markets expertise and experience in management of private assets and related funds.
Knowledge of Ireland’s investment and financing landscape, the climate and energy sector and market insights relevant to this role.
