Contract Type: Permanent Full-Time 35 hours

Reports to: Radiology Services Managers

Service Relationship: Radiology Services Managers

Location: Bon Secours Hospital, Dublin

Job Summary:

In view of the continued growth of Bon Secours, Dublin (BSD) and the recent merger with Bon Secours Mercy Health, BSD is now recruiting a permanent full-time Radiographer. The Dublin Diagnostic Imaging department is a busy multidisciplinary department incorporating CT, MRI, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, DEXA and General Radiography. This is an opportunity for you to join a well-motivated and enthusiastic team providing a high quality of patient care and play a crucial part in delivering access to care and patient experience that are consistent with the Bon Secours Mission, Vision and Values.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (not listed in order of priority):

* Undertake all Radiographic Imaging Examinations as required in the Diagnostic Imaging Department; in particular in General Radiography, DEXA, Theatre and Interventional/Fluoroscopy Radiology, and preferably also with MRI and/or General Ultrasound skills, with opportunities in Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, CT and PACS/RIS.
* Carry out high standard, best practise, clinical imaging when required and be professionally responsible for all aspects of own work, maintaining highest standards of patient care.
* Maintain an effective and efficient high quality radiographic service for the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

* Demonstrate flexibility in accordance with the various shift patterns and the service needs of the Department, and partake in the Departments' radiographic rota.

* Participate in an on-call rota basis as and when required.
* Perform Intravenous cannulation as and when required.
* Maintain all documentation in accordance with hospital policy including data protection and confidentiality e.g. patient information, log books, quality assurance records, staff training record.
* Participate in continuous improvement projects, to resolve patient focused problems, to ensure the delivery of a quality service to the patients.
* Maintain clear and receptive lines of communication, between clinical and non clinical colleagues to ensure a professional and high quality imaging service.
* Liaise with other departments, GPs, Consultants, Secretaries and colleagues to ensure effective patient management.
* Demonstrate and explain technologies and procedures to visitors and students when requested.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Hospital and Departmental policy.
* Comply with Health and Safety regulations ensuring safe working practices and a safe working environment.
* Follow correct clinical dress code.
* Take responsibility for the general cleanliness, tidiness and safety of the Department, with specific responsibility for their own work area by complying with the local guidelines for Infection Control and Health and Safety.
* Ensure adherence to all codes and guidelines relating to professional practise including the management of a departmental Quality Assurance programme.
* Assist in evaluation, logging and reporting of imaging & equipment faults and that regular monitoring is undertaken in audit.
* Promote and support the quality process within the Hospital and to implement quality standards ensuring a quality service is delivered at all times.
* Be familiar with hospital accreditation standards and ensure that these standards are adhered to. Help implement and maintain JCI AOP Radiology Standards.
* Help implement and maintain Hospital JCI Accreditation Standards including departmental compliance with International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG's).
* Participate in clinical audit.
* Participate in Departmental Quality Improvement Initiatives.
* Maintain Departmental KPI's.
* Help implement and maintain relevant HIQA and EPA guidelines.

* Radiation Protection

* Ensure that local and national Radiation Protection Rules are applied at all times and to be familiar with all legislation and guidelines contained within the Local Rules for Ionising Radiation.

* Recognise and comply with Statutory Instrument No. 256 of 2018 and any subsequent guidelines issued by HIQA; Statutory Instrument No. 30 of 2019 and any subsequent guidelines issued by the EPA, Statutory Instrument No. 332 of 2019, Statutory Instrument No. 413 of 2019, European Communities (Medical Ionising Radiation Protection) Regulations; Guidelines on the Protection of the Unborn Child during Diagnostic Medical Procedures, RPII, May 2010; Radiological Protection (Amendment) Act 2002, Local Rules.

* To ensure that the three principles of radiation protection, namely justification, optimisation (ALARA) and dose constraints/limits are adhered to.
* Ensure all Radiology, Nursing and Consulting staff comply with regulations and guidelines.
* Operate as a patient advocate in Radiation Protection issues.

* Education & Professional development

* Hold excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of all General, DEXA, Theatre and Interventional/Fluoroscopy Radiology, preferably of CT also and if possible of Cath Lab, MRI and Ultrasound examinations, enabling modification of protocols with close consultation with specialist Radiologists.
* The post holder is responsible for his/her personal development: Keep up to date with current techniques and latest developments in radiographic and imaging procedures – reading current literature, attending lectures, seminars and refresher courses. To make recommendations to ensure that the hospital is at the leading edge of best practice in service provision.
* Familiarise themselves in the operation and use of new pieces of imaging equipment and provide guidance to staff in correct use of same.
* Participate in orientation programmes and clinical tutoring of new staff/students and if necessary existing staff/students.
* Assess new employees for skills/competencies and provide best practise training and supervision to members of staff/students, ensuring correct clinical techniques and correct use of imaging equipment and accessories.
* To perform the duties of a Student Liaison Radiographer when required.
* Exercise professional accountability at all times and to be aware of their developments needs/limitations and actively seek to address these where necessary
* Complete in-house mandatory training.
* Maintain knowledge of departmental policies, protocols and guidelines.

Essential Qualifications

* BSc (Hons) in Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
* CORU registration and maintenance of such is essential

Desirable Qualifications

* Post graduate qualification

Desirable Experience

* Minimum 3 years post graduate experience
* Diagnostic MRI and/or General Ultrasound skills and experience is desirable
* Post graduate qualification in MRI and/or General Ultrasound is desirable
