AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading engineering consultancy providers with offices across Ireland. We have an opportunity for an experienced Design & Build (DB) Design Manager to join our fast‑moving multidisciplinary team working on infrastructure projects across water, aviation, buildings and energy markets. The successful candidate will work directly with senior members of the team across Ireland and be based in one of the Dublin, Cork, Galway or Dundalk offices, with the option to work remotely within Ireland in a hybrid work environment.
Role Description and Duties
Manage multi‑disciplinary design‑build teams to deliver projects to agreed programme, budget and quality targets.
Identify and agree project objectives with the Project Director and develop a strategy for achieving them.
Escalate and manage any contractual or commercial risks to the Project Director at the earliest opportunity.
Set objectives and delegate tasks for the project team, agreeing how risks will be shared.
Actively manage the project technically and financially, monitoring performance against programme, quality, financial and KPI targets and providing mitigation actions when necessary.
Lead the project team, motivating and coaching members, providing regular feedback, ensuring H&S training and defining communication lines.
Facilitate communication, coordination and information flow with the client and project team, including subcontractors and partners.
Agree commercial trading arrangements and communication plans for working with other teams, issuing task orders and purchase orders, and establishing a bottom‑up estimate of project costs.
Own the project delivery programme and plans, providing regular cost and schedule reports to the client and internal stakeholders.
Protect the commercial interests of AtkinsRéalis, ensuring timely invoicing, credit control, and earned‑value reporting.
Close out projects, archive documentation, capture lessons learned and initiate client satisfaction surveys.
Candidate Requirements
Relevant experience in DB design / project management.
Level 8 Honours degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management or related field.
Chartered Engineer or equivalent, with experience managing design commissions on large infrastructure projects.
Experience managing design teams in a consultancy office.
Experience across a range of building construction projects.
Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
Hard‑working, flexible team player with attention to detail, reliability, initiative and the ability to work under pressure.
Strong leadership and team‑motivation skills.
Experience deploying construction contracts (particularly NEC4).
Proven ability to prepare Scope Definition papers, Project Execution Plans, Risk Registers, Change Control Logs and Client & Stakeholder Management plans.
Ability to deliver design projects to cost, time and quality objectives using programming and earned‑value techniques.
Self‑motivated and capable of working independently and within a multi‑disciplinary team.
Familiar with BIM, CDE, 3D modelling tools and information attributes management.
Competence in project management and data management software applications.
High performance expectations for self and others.
Customer‑focused with excellent client relationship management skills.
Supportive and encouraging mentor for less experienced members.
Adaptability to different cultures and working environments.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Strong time‑management, priority setting and strategic mindset with an organised and methodical working style.
