Position: Academic Manager / Director of Studies
Location: ISE Ireland, Dublin
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer and Board of Management
Overview
The Academic Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the academic department. This includes learner management, teacher support and professional development, and ensuring effective academic operations and compliance with institutional policies and external accreditation standards.
Qualifications
* Educated to Degree Level (QQI Level 7 or equivalent)
* DELTA or Trinity Diploma in TESOL,
* or
* MA in ELT / TESOL, provided the programme meets the required validation, entry, teaching practice, and input criteria.
Key Responsibilities, Curriculum and Assessment
* Oversee the review and maintenance of curricula and syllabi for all English language programmes.
* Manage and update the assessment framework and develop assessment materials.
* Review weekly lesson plans to ensure alignment with programme objectives.
* Ensure teaching resources and facilities effectively support all academic programmes.
Teacher Support and Development
* Conduct teacher inductions, appraisals, and peer observations.
* Provide mentoring and support for new and less experienced teachers.
* Hold regular weekly meetings with teachers to ensure communication, support, and performance management.
Student Experience and Welfare
* Address student complaints in accordance with ISE policies.
* Maintain an open-door policy for students and staff.
* Liaise with the Social Activities Co-ordinator to oversee and approve extracurricular activities and teacher rotas.
Academic Operations
* Liaise with the CEO and senior management regarding timetabling and staffing.
* Recruit teachers within approved levels and ensure adherence to all ISE policies.
* Ensure compliance with ILEP and ACELS regulations, particularly in relation to attendance and record-keeping.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date teacher and student records in line with Data Protection and Health & Safety requirements.
Quality Assurance and Accreditation
* Ensure compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (2005).
* Take the academic lead in preparing ISE Ireland for TrustEd accreditation and maintain compliance post-introduction.
* Represent ISE with external stakeholders as directed by senior management.
* Liaise with Sales & Marketing regarding new course offerings.
Additional Duties
* Perform teaching duties as required, particularly in cases where student numbers are below staffing thresholds.
* Carry out other responsibilities as may be assigned within the employee’s competence and capability.
