Job Summary: The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and technological development and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Responsibilities Principal Duties & Responsibilities: To perform his/her duties under the general direction of the Chief Scientist and Senior Scientist.
To perform all aspects of technical work to the highest standard.
To supervise and provide guidance and support to medical scientists and medical laboratory assistants in the performance of their duties.
To organise the technical programme so that work patterns are efficiently maintained.
To carry out routine inspections of laboratory equipment in his/her charge and to ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and kept in serviceable condition.
To collaborate with the Chief Scientist in the maintenance of efficiency and the introduction of new methods in the laboratory.
To assist in implementing measures for the safety, health and welfare of all the staff.
To assist in the training of student medical scientists, on call personnel, junior medical staff and visiting workers as required.
To assist in maintaining the ISO***** accredited status of the department.
To represent the Chief Scientist at meetings when required.
To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge.
To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade.

Mandatory:
(a) Candidates for appointment must possess: Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree, with a Genomics/Genetics component contained in the curriculum And
(b) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
