The Role
The Engineering Manager plays a critical role in shaping, supporting, and enabling high-performing engineering teams within Zinkworks.
This role ensures that employees are supported in their growth, client delivery is executed to a high standard, and organisational values and ways of working are consistently championed.
The Engineering Manager is pivotal in fostering employee wellbeing, driving retention and "Building a Community where people can grow and be at their best".
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, coach, and support engineering teams, creating an environment that enables high performance, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement while actively supporting employee wellbeing and retention.
Performance Management & Feedback:
Provide regular, structured feedback through 1:1s, ensuring performance conversations align with Zinkworks culture, support career progression, and are informed by stakeholder input and delivery outcomes.
Delivery Enablement:
Partner with Delivery Directors to support successful client engagements, ensuring engineering teams are aligned, well-supported, and performing effectively across delivery commitments.
Quality & Engineering Standards:
Promote engineering best practices and continuous improvement, ensuring that delivery output consistently meets agreed quality standards.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Build strong, trusted relationships with Account Managers, Delivery Directors, and client stakeholders through clear communication, collaboration, and proactive engagement.
Career Progression & Development:
Own and maintain Individual Development Plans, support career progression through defined frameworks, and enable learning through L&D programmes and coaching.
Learning & Capability Growth:
Identify skills gaps across teams, support training and upskilling initiatives, and work with L&D to ensure development activities align with organisational and client needs.
Culture, Values & Ways of Working:
Champion Zinkworks principles by embedding teamwork, professionalism, learning, and inclusion into day-to-day operations, while encouraging participation in cultural and engagement initiatives.
Recruitment & Onboarding:
Collaborate with Delivery Directors to define role requirements, participate in interview and selection processes, and support the effective onboarding and integration of new hires.
Essential Skills
Proven experience leading and developing software engineering teams
Strong people management skills, including coaching, feedback, and conflict resolution
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Solid understanding of Agile delivery and modern engineering practices
Experience supporting client-facing delivery environments
Strong focus on quality, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence
Ability to support and guide career development and progression
Experience identifying capability gaps and supporting learning initiatives
Strong organisational, prioritisation, and decision-making skills
Recruitment and interviewing experience
