Early Literacy Coach
Purpose Statement
Within the Teaching and Learning department, the Early Literacy Coach will provide support to faculty members through coaching and creating professional development opportunities for teachers to deepen their ability to implement early literacy programs and practices to ensure high student achievement.
By collaborating with teachers, specialists, instructional coaches, and administrators, this position will play a pivotal role in improving early literacy outcomes; In specifically focusing on improving Tier 1 foundational reading skills (K-3), we can ensure future academic success in all subject areas.
Essential Functions
Implement strategic coaching cycles that focus on the improvement of early literacy instruction and that produce strong results in students' literacy learning.
Lead or support professional learning opportunities, such as weekly meetings of teacher study groups, that are focused on continuous improvement or early literacy instruction and on ensuring every student's literacy growth.
Advocate for instructional materials and initiatives that are aligned with current reading research, oriented toward equity, and implementable in culturally responsive ways.
Assist teachers with planning, sequencing, and scaffolding instruction
Sustain or establish and sustain a professional and collaborative environment that is characterized by shared responsibility for student's learning and respect for families, communities, children and colleagues.
Model best practice procedures and lessons for Reading Specialists and teachers who need instructional support with Fundations, 95% Group, Tier 1 and 2 interventions and structured reading instruction.
Provide MTSS support to campuses as needed
Work with teachers individually, in collaborative teams, and departments to provide relevant instructional support.
Observe and provide feedback to teachers on instruction.
Participate in the PLC's across designated campuses, including collaboration with administrators on developing supports for PLC work.
Build relationships with new teachers to establish an environment or trust and collaboration.
Improve recruitment, development and retention of outstanding certified staff members by providing engaging, meaningful, and effective professional development.
Collaborate with district and campus leadership teams to determine the strengths and improvement needs around literacy instruction to improve students' learning and achievement.
Participate in district level meetings, as needed, to assist in the coordination of district-level professional learning and development offerings.
Establish rapport with faculty and staff.
Prepare and maintain a variety of files/records for the purpose of evaluating and demonstrating program benefits, and needs assessment for future planning efforts.
Model professionalism at all times to demonstrate the expected behaviors and actions of a master teacher.
Other Functions
Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Mental Requirements
Learning Development - Level E: Knowledge in a recognized professional field or technological discipline sufficient to command various principles, facts, and practical applications.
Learning development is obtained by the completion of a college curriculum resulting in a bachelor's degree in a specialized field; advanced mathematics, very advanced language development, proficient understanding of practical systems.
Problem Solving - Level 2: Work situations require consideration and interpretation of circumstances or information to choose the most effective responses.
Solutions may be somewhat technical, yet are relatively straightforward, obvious and well-defined once problems are understood.
Responses come from the realm of prior learning and experiences.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill - Level A: Basic level of learned physical skill is required.
No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
Physical Effort - Level 1: Minimal physical exertion is required.
Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking.
Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.

Human Relations Skill - Level B: Job requires patience in communication and well-developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small, informal groups.

Experience, Education, and Certifications
Experience: Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience in grades K-3.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a job related area.
Master's degree (preferred).
Certifications/Clearances: Arizona Teaching Certificate.
Literacy or reading endorsement.
Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
