Role Overview
A highly skilled and certified Microsoft Engineer is required to provide advanced technical support, design, and implementation across Microsoft 365, Azure, and security environments. The role involves driving security compliance, supporting infrastructure transformation, and ensuring alignment with ISO 27001, NIST, and CIS frameworks.
This is a senior, hands-on technical position suited to a professional who combines deep technical knowledge with strong problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills. The role will operate in a fractional capacity, working closely with IT leadership to provide subject matter expertise and ensure secure, resilient, and high-performing systems.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide Level 3 support for Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and security-related incidents and projects.
· Design, implement, and maintain secure cloud and hybrid infrastructures.
· Manage and optimise Azure AD, conditional access, identity protection, and role-based access control (RBAC).
· Support endpoint management and compliance using Intune and Autopilot.
· Lead security hardening initiatives and ensure compliance with ISO 27001, CIS, and NIST frameworks.
· Monitor, analyse, and respond to security alerts, vulnerabilities, and incidents.
· Conduct regular reviews of security controls, policies, and procedures.
· Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity testing and validation.
· Maintain detailed technical documentation including runbooks, SOPs, and configuration guides.
· Work closely with leadership to align infrastructure and security strategies with business objectives.
· Provide technical mentorship and escalation support to Level 1 and Level 2 engineers.
Skills & Experience
· Minimum 10 years' experience in senior systems engineering or infrastructure roles.
· Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator / Security Engineer / M365 Certified / MS Certified Solutions Expert (or equivalent).
· Proven experience with Microsoft 365 administration and security (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Defender, Purview).
· Extensive experience with Azure IaaS / PaaS, Azure AD, conditional access, and automation (PowerShell, ARM/Bicep).
· Strong background in endpoint management via Intune, device compliance, and patching automation.
· Experience in security operations, SIEM/Sentinel monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response.
· In-depth understanding of ISO 27001, NIS2, and GDPR compliance requirements.
· Proven track record in system hardening, zero trust design, and cloud security architecture.
· Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
· Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers or support teams.
Time Commitment
Approximately 2–3 days per week, variable depending on project and security review cycles.
Hybrid / Remote working arrangement, Dublin-based availability preferred.
Contract & Rate
Fractional / Independent Contractor basis.
Day rate to be agreed based on experience and certifications.
