Job Title: Social Care Manager (Person in Charge)
A Leadership Opportunity with Purpose - New Service Launch
An established and values-led social care provider is seeking a passionate and experienced Social Care Manager (Person in Charge) to lead a brand-new residential service for adults with intellectual disabilities in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. This is a full-time, permanent leadership role - and an excellent opportunity for an experienced PIC to get their foot in the door at the launch of a new community, helping to shape it from the ground up.
About the Service
This new residential setting is part of a wider national network focused on inclusion, social justice, and person-centred care. The service will offer a blend of residential life-sharing, day programmes, and tailored support for adults with varying needs, all within a supportive community environment.
Role Overview
As Person in Charge, you will oversee all operational, regulatory, and quality aspects of the service. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensure HIQA compliance, and collaborate closely with senior management to deliver best-in-class care and support.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
1. Oversee day-to-day operations and long-term service development
2. Maintain HIQA compliance and strong safeguarding procedures
3. Supervise and support team leads and frontline staff
4. Regularly report to the Senior Management Team
Service Delivery & Oversight
5. Ensure delivery of high-quality residential and day services
6. Lead risk management, safeguarding, and health & safety systems
7. Oversee person-centred support plans and documentation
Team Management
8. Lead recruitment, induction, and staff supervision
9. Support team development and promote a learning culture
10. Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix
Finance & Resources
11. Manage budgets in collaboration with finance team
12. Oversee handling of service user and community finances
13. Ensure efficient and ethical resource use
Stakeholder Engagement
14. Liaise with HIQA, HSE, and external partners
15. Represent the service in external meetings and forums
16. Advocate for resident inclusion, rights, and wellbeing
Candidate Profile
Essential:
17. Level 7 qualification (or higher) in Social Care or related discipline
18. Minimum 5 years' experience in health or social care
19. Minimum 3 years' experience in a senior or PIC role
20. Excellent knowledge of HIQA standards and safeguarding practices
21. Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
22. Full driving licence and access to own transport
23. Must currently reside in Ireland with full right to work (visa sponsorship not available)
Desirable:
24. Postgraduate qualification in Social Care Management
25. Experience in community-based or life-sharing environments
