Description
An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Trading Manager (All-Island) to lead the 24/7 Dublin Trading team.
Reporting to the Director of Commercial Finance – All-Island, the Trading Manager (All-Island) shall be responsible for the day-to-day management of all activities of the All-Island Trading team.
The successful candidate will maximise gross margin across trading horizons ranging from intraday real-time delivery, dispatch into day-ahead auctions and forward hedging. The All-Island Trading team manage all portfolio 24/7 dispatch and optimisation, prompt power and gas trading, and forward hedging execution, as well as providing strategic and analytical support to the wider business, aiding forward hedging decisions, market analysis and investments.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have responsibility for, but not limited to:
- Devising, implementing and maintaining appropriate policy and procedures for the trading of power and commodities within the integrated Single Energy Market (I-SEM), including DAM, IDA, IDC, forwards/CfD's, Gas Capacity Strategy and Ancillary Services to deliver maximised profitability.
- Leading the All-Island trading team in devising all hedging strategies (gas, power, carbon), ensuring that all short-term optimisation decisions are appropriately challenged, costed and risk assessed.
- Managing delivery of all I-SEM market power, gas and carbon trading activities in accordance with relevant regulations (including REMIT) and EPUKI risk and trading policies, ensuring ongoing commercial regulatory compliance with respect to the BCOP/BMPCOP and communication with the Market Monitoring Unit (MMU).
- Working with the Finance and Markets teams, supporting the development of long-term hedging strategies and mandates, ensuring that they are reflective of real-world dynamics (e.g. liquidity, credit, counterparty availability, etc.) and are executed in a manner that optimises value.
- Providing in depth, real-world market intelligence to the Markets and Fundamentals teams, TOFCo and CRRCo Committees, including EPUKI board and EPH executive level members as required.
- Developing and continuously improving trading capabilities, including the ingratiation of new and incumbent generation assets in I-SEM market, providing a platform for data led trading and optimisation.
- Developing and continuously managing relationships with market counterparties, including stakeholder interactions and representation with relevant regulatory agencies (e.g. Eirgrid, EPA, CRU, GNI and Gas Code Modification Forums).
- Developing and implementing appropriate KPIs, scorecards and other tools to incentivise and monitor the performance of the All-Island Trading team.
- Recruiting, training, coaching and leading a team of shift, day traders and analysts within the All-Island market, implementing the appropriate processes, procedures, and controls to deliver the rights result.
- Identifying and delivering additional opportunities within the All-Island market through the development of an entrepreneurial team culture, whilst leading in delivering an open, engaged and compliance led culture, with focus on identifying, delivering, and protecting value add opportunities.
- Maintaining and developing relationships between All-Island asset locations and the Trading team, ensuring clear and unambiguous communications around market and plant conditions that comply with REMIT and enable EPUKI to maximise market opportunities whilst appropriately mitigating plant risks.
- Building partnership relationships across the wider EPUKI/EPH Groups and help to deliver improvement either within the All-Island Trading team or elsewhere.
- Monitoring of credit positions with counter parties, including recommending alternative strategies for hedging where appropriate
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Background
- Extensive experience of I-SEM and All-Island gas markets fundamentals, with experience of wider European energy markets advantageous.
- Experience leading a shift power or commodity trading team.
- Proven experience developing hedging strategies and guiding market analysis.
- Experience of risk management tools, methodologies, and business intelligence reporting of complex energy assets (specifically in Power and Gas).
- Experience developing trading capabilities and responding to market and policy change.
- Leading and developing teams of up to 10 people.
- Knowledge of IBP/NIBP/NBP/EU gas, ISEM/GB/EU power, coal, and emissions trading markets.
- Knowledge of Electricity/Transmission System Operator services, codes, operations, and forums.
- Knowledge of REMIT, Trading & Settlement Code, BCOP, EMIR, financial and energy market compliance obligations.
- A sound understanding of the operations of a power generation with knowledge of the commercial drivers of such units.
- Understanding of business financial drivers with the ability to understand financial metrics and information.
- Excellent MS Office knowledge is required – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to apply skills to market modelling and analysis.
- Database applications and statistical tool skills is advantageous (e.g. SQL, Python, Management Studio, VBA, PLEXOS etc.).

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in a numerate discipline (Mathematics, Sciences, Economics, Business, Finance, etc.).
