The Role
The Asset Operations function forms the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and ensuring regulatory standards are met.
The Regional OAM Team manages regional operational water or wastewater treatment and network assets, delivering services through operational, maintenance and repair activities while managing health and safety.
The Water Treatment Operations Team Lead will lead and manage a team of operators to achieve optimum water quality from source to tap and ensure treatment assets and networks comply with relevant legislation within budget.
Out of hours working will be required and appropriate overtime and standby rates will apply.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and manage the performance of a team of water treatment operators and provide direction to ensure operation of treatment assets and compliance with environmental consents and safety legislation.
Respond to SCADA / telemetry alarms in accordance with standards and procedures; request critical alarm level changes to Telemetry Services as required.
Interact with Treatment Operators and Senior Operators to understand asset needs and identify intervention requests; submit requests to Treatment Planning with required supplementary information.
Capture data on issues relevant to developing operational, maintenance and repair plans; liaise with the Operations Planning Specialist for performance reviews and recommendations.
Maintain and repair newly commissioned / upgraded assets with appropriate site training and resourcing.
Develop the skills of team members through coaching and training on relevant operations.
Contribute to the development of task schedules and standard operating procedures for network services to maximise quality and efficiency.
Implement process optimization recommendations to improve water/wastewater treatment performance or deliver efficiencies.
Participate in out of hours and standby working as required.
Budget Management
Manage costs associated with the water/wastewater team and coordinate efficient use of budgetary resources.
Customer and Incident Management
Deliver proactive and reactive customer service and investigate complaints regarding water services with stakeholder engagement; input updates into outage management system.
Support incident and emergency response, ensuring health and safety standards are met and pollution classifications are consistent.
Health and Safety
Ensure health and safety inductions are completed and equipment and calibrations are provided.
Implement Construction Regulations in line with Uisce Éireann policies; oversee safety standards and safe working practices.
Ensure adherence to health and safety procedures including risk assessments and PPE use.
Ensure personnel have relevant safety skills and documentation (Safe Pass cards and CSCS where relevant).
Identify hazards and assess risks for Operational areas.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with key internal stakeholders across UÉ.
Promote and deliver health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain.
Support the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme and organisation-wide objectives.
Provide visible leadership, coaching and development for your team.
Conduct duties in line with UÉ Information Security policies and cybersecurity regulations.
Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Secondary education or equivalent work experience.
Experience in a process / chemical driven industry.
Minimum of 3 years direct relevant experience in a similar role within water/wastewater treatment and/or network distribution services.
FETAC level 5 / QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate or equivalent is desirable.
Team leadership skills with ability to build and develop a high-performing team.
Confident in driving team performance and continuous improvement of assets and resources.
Digital literacy and ability to influence a smart technology culture.
Deep understanding of water quality assessment methodologies and environmental principles.
Ability to analyse and interpret complex data with statistical analysis and modelling techniques.
Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, rules and standards to ensure compliance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse stakeholders.
Ability to analyse situations, identify problems, and develop effective solutions for water quality challenges.
Strong project planning, implementation and resource management skills.
Ability to coordinate teams and work with internal and external stakeholders.
Attention to detail for accurate testing, monitoring and reporting.
