Title and Summary
The Database Engineer plays a critical role within the Processing Service Delivery organization. This individual will lead large initiatives, be responsible for gathering requirements through feature requests from our development partners, perform analysis and implementation of database designs, provide consulting, and drive the best practice, governance, and standards of Database Engineering in Mastercard.
Overview
The Processing Service Delivery team is looking for a candidate who can help us solve problems, build and maintain our databases, and lead Mastercard in Database automation and best practices.

Database Engineering (DE) supports Mastercard Business Systems and Operations across the globe. As part of Technology Operations, DE drives the database engineering best practice, governance and standards in Mastercard. As a Sr. Engineer part of the Processing Service Delivery team, you will leverage your knowledge and skills to deploy and manage various database technologies in Test and Production environments for global products ranging from Developer APIs to Digital Checkout to Card Tokenization.
Major Accountabilities for this role:
* Oracle database administrator with RAC.
* Oracle Data Guard.
* Oracle OEM.
* Oracle patching and upgrades.
* Oracle backups and restores.
* Oracle performance tuning.
* Oracle GoldenGate replication.
* Oracle Exadata.
* Managing a wide variety of databases, particularly highly experienced in backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configuration. Technologies include Oracle, PostgreSQL, NoSQL (added advantage). The ideal candidate should have experience in more than one database technology.
* Forward-thinking infrastructure automation and scripting skills.
* Leading in managing client expectations and proactive communication.
* Requires minimal supervision while identifying tasks related to responsibilities.
* Collaborating with other DBAs, participating in internal projects, and leading some initiatives.
* Providing DBA suggestions and input on database strategy.
* Guiding and advising on best practices and solutions to Mastercard’s development teams.
* Reviewing new tools and products that assist in database support and services.
* Planning and coordinating data migrations between systems.
Education (preferred):
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.
Knowledge/Experience (preferred):
* In-depth knowledge of database management, including installation, creation, space management, reorganization, backup and recovery, replication, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
* Strong working knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL databases with relevant certifications.
* Understanding of security standards and best practices around database platforms.
* Hands-on experience in database tuning and troubleshooting.
* Intermediate knowledge of Oracle replication (Golden Gate/Data Guard).
* Intermediate understanding of Oracle internals and middleware (OEM).
* Experience with Oracle physical database tuning, SQL tuning, and backup/recovery using RMAN.
* PL/SQL coding experience.
* Knowledge of partitioning and sharding concepts.
* Experience with Oracle RAC, Cluster Resource software, and features.
* Knowledge of multiple database technologies including Oracle, PostgreSQL, NoSQL.
* Understanding CAP theorem and its implementation in NoSQL.
* Knowledge of logical and physical data models for structured and unstructured data.
* Understanding of the role of Database Engineering in supporting business processes.
* Ability to participate in cross-functional teams for estimating, design, and implementation strategies.
