Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. The role focuses on multi‑million dollar projects from concept through construction, collaborating with cutting‑edge equipment and cross‑disciplinary teams to deliver resilient, cost‑effective solutions that support our customers worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Design data center electrical systems and produce construction documents in collaboration with other disciplines.
Design HV/MV substations and critical substation electrical equipment.
Participate in site selection reviews and site planning activities.
Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment.
Coordinate with local utilities and agencies to define site utility requirements and ensure compliance with IEC, EU requirements, and building codes.
Review and approve equipment submittals.
Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during construction phases.
Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions and travel to sites for reviews, audits, and startup as needed.
Act as a leader within the global group and support internal and external teams that enable Amazon's data centers.
A Day in the Life
As an Electrical Engineer on our team, you will design robust electrical distribution systems that maintain world‑class uptime for data centers. Your day may involve developing design specifications, reviewing and marking up technical drawings, collaborating with cross‑functional teams on equipment qualifications, conducting site inspections, responding to design inquiries, and presenting work to stakeholders. You will navigate between desk‑based design tasks and on‑site activities to ensure seamless translation from concept to construction, while exploring new technologies and construction methods that improve facility operations.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning‑specific education courses.
Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
Experience using a variety of web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
Chartered Engineer with a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 3+ years of directly related experience in data center or mission‑critical facility design.
Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
