Membership on the board of theLaois Volunteer Centre is an exciting opportunity to help govern the first Volunteer Centre in the county.
The Volunteer Centre was set up with the guidance of Volunteer Ireland in 2020 and is independent entity within the network of volunteer centres around Ireland. The service is delivered by a Manager and Development Officer, Outreach Officer, and Migrant Support Officer.
A Complany Limited by Guarantee with Charitable Status, it is funded primarily by the Department of Rural and Community Development as part of a policy to drive volunteerism in Ireland.
The Purpose of this Role
Laois Volunteer Centre is looking for a member of the new board of directors with a focus on community development. The role involves playing an active role in the organisation’s establishment as well as its governance and strategic direction, while taking a leading role on community development matters.
Support & Training
Laois Volunteer Centre has a budget set aside for board directortraining, and all board members are encouraged to undertake training as part of their new role. Training needs will be identified on an ad hoc basis, and also through a board review process.
Time Commitment
It is estimated at about 10 hours per year for board and committee meetings with additional time required to read papers and prepare in advance of each meeting, plus involvement in sub-committees and advisory roles.

* Professional experience in a community development role
* Creativity and ability to come with fresh ideas and solutions to community development challenges
* Experience of strategic planning and service development
* An enquiring mind, with the confidence to challenge constructively
* Understanding of the community and voluntary sector landscape in CoLaois
Desirable Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities
The ideal candidate will have experience as a volunteer, board level experience in the non-profit or private sector, or experience establishing a non-profit organisation in Ireland.
Ideally the candidate should be residing in Laois or have worked in the community sector in the county.
