Ceramics Studio & Craft Tutor (ATU-Accredited Programme) – DCCI Academy (Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny)
Connexus Recruit is proud to partner with Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) on the appointment of a Ceramics Studio & Craft Tutor for the DCCI Academy in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny.
This is a hands-on, workshop-based role supporting the delivery of a new ATU-accredited 3-year Ceramics programme, launching September 2026. You'll work alongside an appointed ATU Lecturer, helping to shape a high-quality studio learning environment and deliver practical teaching in a busy workshop setting.
Location: Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny (fully onsite)
Reporting to: Head of Craft & Education
Programme launch: September 2026
Start: Ideally by March 2026 (to support studio setup and readiness for launch)
The opportunity
This is an ideal role for a practising ceramicist with strong studio capability who also enjoys teaching, mentoring and maintaining professional workshop standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the ceramics studio/workshop, supporting students and helping the course team continuously improve delivery and learning outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Studio / workshop delivery
* Deliver high-quality practical teaching and demonstrations across ceramics modules
* Supervise and manage studio activity safely in a busy workshop environment
* Embed employability and transversal skills into hands-on learning
Course support & quality
* Support curriculum implementation and ongoing course development (schemes of work, materials, assessment alignment)
* Participate in course team meetings, moderation/verification and quality assurance cycles
* Contribute to course reviews, action plans and continuous improvement
Student support
* Participate in student selection, enrolment and induction activities
* Act as Course Tutor for a designated student group, supporting progress and progression routes
* Identify learners requiring additional support and refer appropriately
Admin & compliance
* Maintain accurate registers, student records, assessment and progress reports
* Provide information required for ATU/DCCI reporting and accreditation
* Promote and implement safeguarding, health & safety and DCCI policies
Flexibility
* Course delivery may include teaching outside standard 9–5 hours.
Essential requirements
* Recent (last 2 years) relevant industry experience in a ceramics studio/workshop setting
* Experience designing and delivering learning/training in a practical/vocational environment
* Experience teaching/training young people and/or adults
* Strong workshop health & safety mindset; relevant H&S qualification highly advantageous
* Comfort using IT systems (Microsoft tools; Moodle/SharePoint or similar VLE)
Qualifications (as per DCCI/ATU requirements)
* Degree (desired) in a relevant subject area
* Teaching qualification preferred; if not held, you'll be required to obtain one within 2 years of appointment
* Ability to assess learners across a range of course types (including micro-credentials where relevant)
* Garda Vetting (enhanced level) required
