The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of animal welfare in Ireland while leading a nationally respected organisation with a strong public profile, committed teams and an ambitious vision for the future. Formed through the merger of two of Irelands most respected and long-established animal welfare charities, the DSPCA and the ISPCA, the NSPCA now stands as the national voice for animal welfare in Ireland. This newly unified organisation brings together decades of expertise, advocacy and frontline care, with a shared ambition to strengthen protections for animals and drive meaningful, lasting change across Irish society. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and values-led leader to guide one of Irelands most important charitable organisations at a pivotal point in its evolution. About the Organisation The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) was established in September 2025 through the merger of Irelands two largest and oldest animal welfare charities, the DSPCA and the ISPCA. As Irelands national voice for animal welfare, the NSPCA is dedicated to ending animal suffering and strengthening protections for animals across the country. Combining decades of expertise, advocacy and frontline welfare services, the organisation works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals while influencing positive legislative and societal change. The NSPCAs vision is an Ireland where animals live free from cruelty, harm and suffering, and where compassion for animals is embedded within our national values. Operating 365 days a year through a committed team of staff and volunteers, the NSPCA delivers nationwide rescue, rehabilitation, veterinary care, education, community outreach and advocacy services. The organisation also operates a successful and profitable commercial division including boarding, daycare, dog training and retail services, with all profits reinvested directly into animal welfare activities. The Role Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead and oversee the overall management, strategic direction and operational performance of the NSPCA. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the organisations strategic priorities and delivering a new five-year strategic plan aligned to the NSPCAs mission, vision and values. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring a commercially astute and values-driven executive capable of balancing strategic leadership, operational excellence, governance, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and organisational transformation. The CEO will act as the principal ambassador and spokesperson for the NSPCA nationally and internationally, while fostering a culture grounded in compassion, courage, respect, excellence and teamwork. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance Provide inspirational and inclusive leadership to staff, volunteers and management teams. Lead the development and implementation of the NSPCAs strategic objectives and long-term plans. Maintain best-in-class governance, compliance and risk management standards. Work closely with the Board to ensure strong organisational oversight and performance. Champion organisational culture, values and employee engagement. Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, commercial partners, donors, sponsors and sector stakeholders. Represent the NSPCA at local, national and international level. Advocate for improved animal welfare legislation, enforcement and policy development. Promote collaborative partnerships to strengthen animal welfare outcomes across Ireland. Financial & Commercial Leadership Ensure prudent financial management, reporting and accountability. Lead and diversify revenue generation initiatives including grants, sponsorships, donations and commercial income streams. Oversee the NSPCAs commercial operations including boarding, daycare and retail services. Identify innovative opportunities to expand sustainable funding sources. Brand, Communications & Public Profile Lead strategic marketing, communications and public engagement initiatives. Act as principal spokesperson for the organisation across media and public platforms. Protect and enhance the NSPCAs reputation and national profile. Candidate Profile The NSPCA is seeking an accomplished and visionary executive leader with the following experience and capabilities: Essential Requirements Significant senior executive leadership experience within commercial and/or not-for-profit environments. Proven experience reporting to and working effectively with Boards. Strong financial acumen with experience managing substantial budgets and capital projects. Demonstrated success in fundraising, sponsorship development and diversified revenue generation. Experience leading large, multidisciplinary and diverse teams. Strong strategic planning and organisational transformation capability. Outstanding stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. Excellent communication, advocacy and public representation abilities. A collaborative and inclusive leadership style. Strong project management and operational delivery experience. High levels of integrity, resilience and professionalism. A genuine passion for animal welfare and advocacy.
