The Senior Instructor SSDL role is based in Galway. Ability West provides a wide range of services across Galway City and County, including day services, residential care, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training and multi-disciplinary supports. The ethos is to empower people with disabilities to live self-directed lives in an equal and inclusive society, with environments that promote autonomy, health and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
* Write, plan, implement and evaluate programmes/learning modules in areas such as arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living skills, adapting to service users\' preferences and learning ability.
* Support the SSDL Manager in delivering modules/courses, including specific skills, social development, personal care and community integration.
* Ensure service users\' individual plans align with New Directions Interim standards.
* Act as Person in Charge in the absence of the SSDL Manager as directed.
Essential Criteria
* Level 8 qualification in Teaching / Nursing / Applied Social Studies / Social Care / Psychology / Behaviour Analysis.
* Or Level 7 with relevant studies and minimum 4 years\' experience working with people with intellectual disabilities including autism.
* Experience working with people with intellectual disability, complex needs and communication difficulties.
* Experience in education/training.
* Ability to instruct service users in all programmes offered at Adult Day Centres, and QQI modules delivered in Rehabilitative Training.
* Full current driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience developing QQI-standard or similar day modules, recording evidence of goals and ambitions.
* Knowledge of Person-Centred planning and managing behaviours that challenge.
* Training in communication strategies.
