Job Description
This is a full-time contract role for a Senior OEM Automation Engineer, based in Cork, supporting a leading pharmaceutical client. While there is some level of flexibility, the role is primarily site-based to enable effective collaboration with key stakeholders and hands-on system integration.
The successful candidate will play a key role in a site-wide PLC upgrade program, working across various critical manufacturing systems including centrifuges, dryers, and utilities. This position is urgent, with the current engineer departing shortly — so we are seeking someone who can start within the next two weeks to ensure a seamless handover and continued project momentum.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and execute PLC upgrade projects across production and utility systems
* Work with Rockwell and/or Siemens PLC platforms
* Collaborate with process, maintenance, automation, and validation teams
* Support troubleshooting, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities
* Ensure all work aligns with GMP and site safety standards
* Contribute to project documentation and knowledge transfer
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, or related discipline
* 5+ years' experience in automation engineering within pharmaceutical or regulated environments
* Strong working knowledge of Rockwell and/or Siemens PLCs
* DeltaV exposure is a plus but not essential
* Proven experience with on-site engineering projects
* Familiarity with GMP, validation processes, and automation documentation
* Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
