Job Title: Director, User Experience
Location: Cork, Ireland Hybrid
Role Overview:
Reporting to the VP of Product, the Director, UX will oversee a team of UX designers and take have ownership of Canto’s design vision, system, processes, and research practices. They will play a critical role in elevating UX maturity across the organization and ensuring design excellence is woven into our product development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate is a strong team builder and advocate for UX who can develop scalable processes and a compelling vision for the discipline—while also having the experience and instincts to get hands-on when needed.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of UX designers across a variety of product initiatives
* Establish a unified UX strategy and design practice that raises the bar for usability, accessibility, and visual design
* Own and evolve our design system, including aligning with Engineering and Product on scalable implementation via MUI, Storybook, and Figma
* Establish and nurture a user-centered design culture, building scalable processes that elevate research, discovery, and rapid prototyping across teams
* Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Product Operations to integrate design into the product development process
* Drive consistency and quality across the user experience, addressing current gaps in visual design
* Ensure the accessibility of Canto’s platform, leading initiatives to meet and maintain WCAG compliance and embed inclusive design practices
* Explore emerging technologies such as AI prototyping tools, and bring innovation into the design process
* Contribute to cross-functional strategic planning and influence company-wide product direction with a UX lens
Qualifications & Experience needed to be successful in this role:
Required
* 8–12+ years of experience in UX or product design, with at least 5 years in a design leadership role
* Strong team leadership and coaching skills; passionate about developing designers at all levels
* Demonstrated success leading UX function for a B2B SaaS product
* Deep understanding of UX design principles, interaction models, and product development lifecycle
* Experience building or scaling a design system in a growing SaaS organization
* Strong foundation in accessible design and working knowledge of WCAG guidelines
* Track record of driving visual design quality and consistency across products
* Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Ops
Preferred
* Hands-on leadership in a full or phased redesign of a B2B SaaS platform
* Familiarity with AI prototyping tools (e.g., Lovable, Uizard, or custom LLM workflows)
* Experience leading UX Research or owning lightweight research practices in-house
* Hands-on experience with Figma, Storybook, and MUI
