Overview
The Rotunda Hospital, founded in 1785 and the oldest continuously operating maternity hospital in the world, serves approximately 10,000 deliveries annually and is one of six hub sites for Ireland's Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Services (SPMHS). This locum role provides temporary adult psychiatry services within the Perinatal Mental Health Department.
Scope of Work
This 6‑week cover (July‑August) involves delivering comprehensive care to women from preconception counselling through the antenatal period and into the post‑natal period, primarily on an outpatient basis with additional support for women admitted to the hospital.
Responsibilities
Provide clinical assessment and management of perinatal mental health conditions.
Deliver brief therapy, counselling and crisis management as required.
Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team members including NCHDs, clinical nurse specialists, mental health midwives, occupational therapists, social workers and psychologists.
Develop and deliver multidisciplinary case conferences and treatment plans.
Contribute to teaching, supervision of junior staff and continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Eligibility
Full registration as a specialist in Psychiatry on the Register of Medical Practitioners (Ireland).
Up‑to‑date knowledge of all aspects of general psychiatry practice.
Desirable experience or qualifications in perinatal mental health.
Registered as a Specialist within 180 days of interview; otherwise, offer may be extended to next suitable candidate.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must be of good character and within the age limits applicable to new entrants or non‑new entrants, and be in satisfactory health to render regular and efficient service.
