Job Purpose
To enhance the quality of life of each resident by providing individualized holistic care, promoting independence, and communicating effectively with the resident and the multidisciplinary team.
Working Hours
Guaranteed minimum of 39 hours per week
Responsibilities
Deliver quality care to each resident
Assist residents with intimate and personal care based on assessed needs
Help residents with eating and drinking when appropriate
Promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet
Assist residents with mobilisation
Assist with diversional therapy (activities, movement to music, etc.)
Assist nursing staff with all resident care and with care of the dying
Maintain control of infection
Report any changes in residents' condition to the senior nurse on duty
Ensure residents' sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noise and bright lights at night
Document required records in the course of duty
Health & Safety
Due to the high dependency of residents, close supervision day and night is vital for their safety and well-being
Be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland
Report any faulty equipment (e.g., lifting hoists, bath hoists) to immediate supervisor
Familiarise yourself with the use of transfer slide sheets and handling belts
Use hoists only with a second staff member present
Understand policies and procedures regarding evacuation and fire
Additional Daily Responsibilities
Collect food orders from residents by 8:00 am daily
Support with tea and toast at breakfast time
Serve meals in the dining room from the bain‑marie
Provide tray service to resident rooms as required
Clear crockery and cutlery from resident rooms and dining areas to the pantry after each meal
Deliver additional food items as requested
Complete tea rounds during morning, afternoon, and evening periods
Replenish water jugs in resident rooms daily
Provide tea and light refreshments to resident families in exceptional circumstances
Maintain pantry cleanliness overnight
Prepare breakfast trays for the following day
Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant training
Previous experience caring for the elderly, preferably in a residential setting
Person-centered approach to care planning
Experience working in a team setting
Evidence of continuing professional development
Effective communication at all levels
Genuine interest in caring for older people
Positive attitude and openness to changing needs within Nazareth Care Ireland
Participation in care planning with nursing & other relevant staff
Proficiency in manual handling and patient moving skills
