The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Application Support Engineer to support and enhance a portfolio of business-critical applications, integrations, and operational platforms.
This role combines technical support, application troubleshooting, systems administration, and integration management, with a particular focus on Linux, PHP, and MySQL-based environments. You will act as a key escalation point for application issues, working closely with business users, third-party vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of core systems.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating across both support and project-based activities, with the ability to investigate complex issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide advanced support for business-critical applications and operational platforms.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across Linux, PHP, MySQL, Microsoft 365, and integrated third-party systems.
Monitor application performance, system health, scheduled jobs, and data processing workflows.
Support and maintain internally developed applications, integrations, and reporting solutions.
Investigate database-related issues, optimise queries, and support data integrity across MySQL environments.
Manage and troubleshoot Linux-based servers, services, and application environments.
Support API integrations and data exchanges between internal and external platforms.
Coordinate with external technology vendors and managed service providers to resolve incidents and technical issues.
Assist with application upgrades, deployments, testing, and system improvements.
Maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and operational procedures.
Participate in project initiatives relating to digital transformation, automation, and business process improvement.
Act as an escalation point for application support incidents and service-related issues.
Skills & Experience Required
5+ years' experience in Application Support, Systems Support, Technical Support, or a similar role.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across business applications and infrastructure.
Hands‑on experience supporting Linux/Ubuntu environments in a production setting.
Strong working knowledge of PHP and MySQL, including application troubleshooting and database support.
Experience supporting web‑based applications and business-critical platforms.
Knowledge of REST APIs, JSON/XML, and system integrations.
Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and related technologies.
Understanding of DNS, authentication, email routing, and identity management.
Experience working with automation processes, scheduled tasks, and data workflows.
Ability to liaise effectively with third‑party vendors and manage technical escalations.
Strong communication skills with the ability to support both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience with ERP, finance, retail, or operational business systems would be advantageous.
