Role Overview
As a Rail Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of rail projects.
Working closely with project managers, design teams, and stakeholders, you will ensure all bids and tenders are commercially viable and aligned with client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for rail infrastructure projects, including civils, stations, track, and associated works.
Analyse drawings, specifications, and contract documents to produce accurate take-offs and pricing.
Work with supply chain partners to obtain competitive quotations and manage subcontractor pricing.
Support bid submissions, tenders, and proposals with robust commercial data.
Monitor and update cost databases, market rates, and benchmarking information.
Liaise with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to provide estimating support throughout the project lifecycle.
Identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions within project estimates.
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience as an Estimator, ideally within the rail or wider infrastructure sector.
Strong knowledge of rail construction processes, standards, and cost drivers.
Proficient in using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes.
Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and work to tight deadlines.
Relevant qualifications in construction, quantity surveying, or engineering (desirable).
