Overview
EHS International is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our client’s team, a leading multinational Medical Device organisation based in Cork.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a culture of safety excellence within a world‑class manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will provide expert support across a broad range of environmental, health, and safety functions, ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and engagement at every level of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Culture
* Lead, advise, and guide the organisation in developing and maintaining a positive EHS culture.
* Influence and engage employees to strengthen ownership of safe and sustainable work practices.
Operational EHS Support
* Support new projects to ensure full operational EHS readiness.
* Conduct EHS design reviews for equipment and facilities.
* Participate in site safety walks, inspections, and internal audit programmes.
* Review and approve safety permits in line with site requirements.
Compliance and Standards
* Maintain compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 standards, as well as local regulatory and corporate requirements.
* Manage and update the site’s chemical management, industrial hygiene, and waste management programmes.
* Ensure compliance with global EHS standards and statutory obligations.
Training and Competence
* Manage the organisation’s EHS training needs analysis and ensure programmes meet legislative and operational requirements.
* Develop, review, and communicate Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and risk management plans.
* Provide support and guidance to Safety Representatives and Safety Committees.
Health and Wellbeing
* Develop and implement workplace health promotion initiatives.
* Promote engagement and participation in health and safety activities across all departments.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Third‑level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related field.
* Minimum 3 years’ post‑qualification experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably medical device or pharmaceutical).
* Proven experience in driving behavioural safety and cultural change.
* Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage at all organisational levels.
* Excellent IT and reporting skills.
* Self‑motivated and capable of working independently.
Desirable
* Experience in Chemical and Biological Safety.
* Familiarity with Environmental and Energy Management Systems.
